Tevez move to Man United further delayed

Carlos Tevez's move to Manchester United will not be signed off by the Premier League today but the club are hopeful the deal will be confirmed by the kick-off of the new season this weekend.

The Argentina striker is to sign a two-year loan-type agreement but the contract has to be deemed acceptable by the Premier League.

It is understood the league's lawyers will not be able to sign it off today and there are some concerns that the delay could stretch on beyond the weekend because a similar deal involving Javier Mascherano to Liverpool took a number of weeks to be cleared.

The Tevez deal though is so similar to Mascherano's that United are confident it can go through before the weekend.

Fergie reveals Tevez fee is already agreed

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has outlined his commitment to sign Carlos Tevez on a permanent deal and claims a fee has already been agreed.


The Argentina striker finally signed for United in a two-year loan deal in August after protracted legal wrangling over his transfer from West Ham.

Tevez, 23, has made an instant impact at Old Trafford with five goals in 17 appearances and Ferguson believes he has done more than enough to show he will be a sound investment.

'There is no question about his long-term future here,' Ferguson told Setanta.

'David Gill (the club's chief executive) has spoken to his agent and told him we are very happy with him.

'The fee is in place. I won't tell you what it is but it is still cheap.

'I want to make this happen. He has impressed everyone with his appetite for the game.

'He'll get me 15 goals this season and what's more, they'll be important goals.'

Joorabchian wants openness

Kia Joorabchian insists he has 'no other choice' than to take legal action against West Ham United.

The businessman is suing the Hammers for alleged unpaid fees and costs regarding the Carlos Tevez affair.

Tevez, along with fellow Argentina international Javier Mascherano, was taken to Upton Park in August 2006 before joining Manchester United last summer.

The arrangement with the Hammers was deemed to be contrary to Premier League regulations, and Joorabchian hopes the court case will bring everything out into the open.

Joorabchian said on Sky Sports News: "I've always said that this has not been a very open-book case and I think a lot speculation which has gone around has damaged us personally throughout the process, which I've not been happy about.

"I don't understand why we were not 100% open about it right from the beginning.

"I think it will give us a chance to be 100% open although it's not a nice thing to go to court and have to sue a club which we obviously have some attachment to through Carlos.

"But we were left with no other choice."

Joorabchian has also completed the sale of Mascherano to Liverpool for £18million - and he is already on the lookout for the next South American star he can bring to Europe.

Vindicated

"I want Javi and Carlos to be the first of many players coming from South America," said Joorabchian.

"I have a whole web of scouts working in South America looking for the new Mascherano and the new Tevez. There is a lot of talent down there.

"People criticised third-party ownership when I first brought Mascherano and Tevez to West Ham, but I feel vindicated now.

"They are playing at two of the biggest clubs in the world. There will be more to follow."

i hope this whole thing doesn't drag on and affect a permanent move for Tevez at man united.
