unfortunately it is... out 6 weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot.

Quote:
Rooney suffers fractured foot

Wayne Rooney suffered a hairline fracture in his left foot in United's goalless draw against Reading.

The England striker was substituted at half-time after being caught by Michael Duberry as the Royals defender tried to block a shot.

Although Rooney did briefly play on after receiving treatment, Sir Alex Ferguson opted not to risk any further injury by fielding him in the second half, and a post-match hospital scan has validated that decision.

Immediately after the match, the United Manager told Sky Sports: “We’re waiting to see how the scan goes. We’ve sent him for a scan and hopefully everything’s ok.

“It was painful, he couldn’t really stand on it. I don’t think it’s the same injury as the last, obviously we hope and pray that that’s the case.

“But it was sore and it started to swell so there was no point in trying anything for the second half.”

The result of Rooney's scan have worsened a frustrating opening day of the season, and as yet there is no timescale of his recovery.

2 months Rooney is out...

From a hairline fracture? it has to be worse then or the length of the fracture has to be pretty long.

Get better soon Wazza...

Quote:
Rooney to miss two months of the season

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be out of action for two months after suffering a hairline fracture of his left foot in Manchester United's game with Reading yesterday.

Rooney suffered the injury near the end of the first half of the goalless draw at Old Trafford in an accidental collision with Royals defender Michael Duberry.

Although the 21-year-old briefly continued, he did not reappear after half-time and was sent for a scan, the results of which ensured Rooney will now miss United's next eight Premier League games, as well as the club's first two Champions League group matches.

He is also ruled out of England's friendly international with Germany next week and the crucial Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia at Wembley in September.

Ferguson said: 'We are putting it at two months. He should be back training in that time but I can't put an exact date on when he will be back playing.

'It is a bad blow, not just for us, but obviously for England as well.'

Ferguson confirmed that new arrival Carlos Tevez will start Wednesday's Premier League encounter at Portsmouth, and revealed he spoke to Steve McClaren yesterday evening to give him the bad news.

The Scot continued: 'I am obviously disappointed and I could sense Steve's disappointment as well.

'It is obviously bad news for England but they should be able to cope without him against Israel and Russia - and by the time we get to the October matches I would expect him to be back by then.'

Ferguson's optimism would require Rooney to hit his recovery target exactly if he is to make the October 13 qualifier against Estonia and the vital trip to Moscow for the Russia rematch four days later.

The United boss is acutely aware that Rooney was back in action within six weeks when he broke his foot prior to the 2006 World Cup - but it was deemed to be far too soon for the young striker, who failed to produce anything like his best form in Germany.

Rooney missed 14 weeks after suffering a similar injury during Euro 2004, which delayed his debut for United following his £27million move from Everton.

Default Neville still sidelined - 08-23-2007, 10:10 AM

Man, Neville has been out a long time... That calf injury really has me worried. Can't wait to see him back hopefully in 2 weeks.

Quote:
Manchester United captain Gary Neville is still a couple of weeks away from returning to action.

The England defender was sidelined for the final two months of last season after damaging his ankle against Bolton in March.

Neville underwent surgery on his injured ankle and had hoped to be fit for the start of new season.

However, he has now been slowed by a calf problem which Sir Alex Ferguson says will keep him out for a further two weeks.

"It will be another couple of weeks," Ferguson confirmed. "We are frustrated with the situation because the operation was fine.

"The surgeons did find a few little bits in there which they had to repair as well, which meant a longer recovery period but then Gary suffered a little setback with a calf injury.

"That sometimes happens when you are trying to compensate after an operation. So the ankle is okay, now the calf is the problem."

Meanwhile, Ferguson is confident Wayne Rooney will return from a hairline fracture of his foot in around two months.

"It is only a hairline but with any kind of fracture, you have to make sure it is dealt with properly," the Scot added.

"It is always difficult to be accurate because everyone is different. I think he should be back playing in eight or nine weeks."

Lord help the EPL when United get back to full strength.

Quote:
Light at end of tunnel for Reds

SIR Alex Ferguson is finally starting to see an end to Manchester United's massive injury problems.

Including suspended winger Cristiano Ronaldo, Ferguson was without eight members of his senior squad for yesterday's 1-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Some of his absentees, notably Park Ji-sung and Ben Foster, will not be seen again until the new year after major knee surgery, while Wayne Rooney is out for a couple of months after fracturing his foot in the opening game against Reading.

However, Ronaldo has just one more game of his three-match suspension to serve, while both Louis Saha and Anderson should be involved next Saturday when Roy Keane returns to his old stamping ground as manager of Sunderland.

The duo were expected to be part of the squad that faced Spurs but in the end, Ferguson decided they would benefit from an extra week's training.

"We have some excellent players to come back, so we have to be patient," said the United boss.

"Louis Saha and Anderson will be fit for next Saturday's game and Gary Neville will be back in a couple of weeks.

"We are getting there but it is just going to take a bit of time."

Lord help me, I cringed mightily when Nani went down when he got sandwiched between Malbranque and the other Spurs defender. At first I thought it was a knee to the head, then a knee in the back, then it turned out to be a boot to the lower back. Nothing major, but phew.

he'll be feeling that today though.

so is saha confirmed for saturday?

apologies for the double post, but i'm a little curious about the injury results after the first euro qualificatio nmatches. I watched Holland vs. Bulgaria and VDS came out of it 100%, otherwise i have no clue. I'm particularly worried about the French match.

Evra didn't play
Ronaldo scored and I think he came out ok
Rio played all 90 and I think he came out fine
Nemanja Vidic I didn't see on the team sheet for Serbia
Nani didn't play either

Looks like Rooney is trying to get back for the Everton game. Hopefully he doesn't rush back too early. I would rather United struggling and winning games without him for a lil while longer than having him get injured trying to rush back too early and having him out a lot longer.

Plus, Saha is healthy...

Quote:
WAYNE Rooney is targeting a record rapid return from his broken foot against former club Everton on Saturday.

But the United striker has been warned that he is taking a gamble that could see him back in plaster if it fails.

The England hitman has been sidelined since United's opening Premiership match of the campaign at Old Trafford on August 12 against Reading. The first half accident broke a metatarsal for a third time in his Reds career.

He suffered his first during Euro 2004 in Portugal and was out for 14 weeks during which time he moved to United from Everton for £30m.

He was out for six weeks after breaking a bone at Chelsea in May 2006 and was rushed back for the World Cup in Germany running up a six-week absence.

Injury

Now the 21-year-old is itching to shave a week off that comeback and be back in action five weeks after the injury occurred.

It would mean he'd return quicker than any other top level player like David Beckham, Ashley Cole, Steve Gerrard and Michael Owen, who have suffered the metatarsal plague in recent years.

But the medic who assessed him before his World Cup comeback last summer has issued a warning saying: "Players need to be held back to stop themselves causing more damage. If you come back too early there's a risk of a re-fracture."

Despite Rooney's desperation to return, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to keep him on a tight rein. Louis Saha's goalscoring return to fitness and form against Sunderland with his match-winner has eased the pressure on United's attacking department that has been depleted since the summer with the sales of Alan Smith to Newcastle, Giuseppe Rossi to Villarreal and the retirement of Ole Solskjaer.

Fergie, though, will have to monitor Carlos Tevez who is in Argentina's squad for their friendly against Australia in Melbourne tomorrow. The South American will have a long haul journey back from Down Under and the noon kick off at Goodison on Saturday will reduce his recovery time.

Also, Park's recovery is going well. Pencilled in to be back January '08

Quote:
Park Ji-Sung has set his sights on a return to action with Manchester United at the start of 2008.

The South Korea midfielder, who underwent knee surgery in America this summer, is happy with his progress so far.

Park told the club's official website: "Hopefully I'll be playing again early in the New Year.

"My knee is getting better and it's a case of so far, so good."

Impressed

And the 26-year-old is confident that Sir Alex Ferguson's summer signings will help the Red Devils in their quest to retain the Premier League title.

He said: "We've got a good squad and the manager has brought some good players into the team to improve it even further.

"The new signings have all impressed me in different ways.

"Nani is very quick, Owen (Hargreaves) works hard and Carlos (Tevez) has great vision. Anderson hasn't played much, but I am looking forward to seeing more of him."

"I'm confident that we can retain the Premier League title this season,"
