people stand. you can't stop an entire section from standing. they don't stand throughout, but the upper level in the stretford end looked like people stood for good bits.

imo, not be allowed to stand, or the wealth ofthe fan base doesn't have as much to do with it as, the meeting of expectations. The mind of the fans have evolved into something else. imo, this is a larger problem, as stated in the above Terrace Talk article.

people cant stand because old trafford is big and there were a few health and safety issues saying that if you trip up you could poteniall fall all the way down because the barriers arent big enough and its too steep.

people usually stand though. The thing is if one row stands, then those behind them have to stand and so on. stewards can be really strict about this at times too. having said that all the away games ive been to you can usually stand all you like because they usually dont care enough to actually stop all of you.

you cant really sing sitting down too well. It just seems awkward. All you get is people clapping like seals

I normally go to all the big games at OT because my mate can get tickets and the atmosphere isnt bad then, but thats because the fans know that they have to get behind the players against the bigger teams. However, when we play smaller teams the fans expect too much and don't tend to cheer. This is when we get the problem but imo now that Fergie has spoken out to the media the fans will react at the next home game.

The whole not being able to stand issue isnt a problem, people always stand, you try and stopping 70,000+ from standing..

Hopefully the crowd responses and the noise level will be through the roof next home match. It really was kinda flat against Birmingham.

Default Reds hit back at 'police state' claims

United have responded to claims that Old Trafford is being run like a "police state".

After reading what you all have said, with regards to standing and what the IMUSA official Colin Hendrie said about the policing for OT, I'm going to have to side with you all and management.

Quote:
UNITED have hit back at claims that Old Trafford is being run like a police state.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson compared the atmosphere at Tuesday's win over Birmingham to a funeral and urged the supporters to back the side more vocally.

But his comments upset IMUSA official Colin Hendrie who accused Sir Alex of a "lack of understanding" of the plight supporters face.

"I think he could benefit from sitting in the ground," said Hendrie who believes Old Trafford stewards come down too hard on fans who stand up at moments of excitement.

"You can't stand up to make a noise. If you try to stand up, you've got stewards who are ejecting you, they're taking your season ticket away from you. It's almost like a police state."

But the club have rejected any notion that stewards have been asked to adopt a heavy-handed approach.

In the four games prior to Christmas it is claimed that just three fans were ejected from Old Trafford in total.

A United spokesman said: "Any suggestion of an ejection policy for persistent standing is simply not borne out by the facts."

I think Sir Alex want the fans to cheer up more and more, 'coz our players need them in home match, who named "12th Player"
