Default Tevez's Dummy *Spoilers*

Family man Tevez tells how he sold United team-mates a dummy

The Argentinian grabbed the headlines by popping a baby's dummy in his mouth after scoring United's winning goal against Birmingham on New Year's Day. It was a tribute to his daughter, who is in Argentina with his wife Vanesa.

The 23-year-old striker explained: "I have dedicated my goal against Birmingham to Florencia. I spent a good Christmas in Manchester with my family but they left England on New Year's Eve so that they could spend some time at home in Buenos Aires.

"The idea behind the dummy was to pay homage to my daughter and to let her and my wife know that my family is still my priority.

"The absence of my family at this time of year is not easy but players have to be professional and in England our obligation is to be on the field at this time of year.

"Nobody else knew I was going to do this. I told my team-mates nothing and even made sure that they could not see what I was doing as I was getting changed.

"I put the dummy in an inside pocket of my shorts and just went out on to the pitch. So it was a surprise to everybody and that was what I wanted.

"Yesterday the image was in all the newspapers in Argentina and that is what I hoped. It means that my family will have seen it and that they will know that I am thinking of them at this time of year when, really, people should be together."

Tevez first did the dummy routine as a Corinthians player when Florencia was born two-and-ahalf years ago.

But he had never done it here — either for United this season or when he played for West Ham during the previous Barclays Premier League campaign.

He said: "In Corinthians I celebrated Florencia's birth with a goal and the same image.

"I didn't expect to repeat it in England but things like this are spontaneous and always depend on how you are feeling."

A scan has revealed no serious damage after Tevez was taken off with an ankle injury after a heavy tackle from Birmingham captain Liam Ridgewell.

But he is a doubt for Saturday's FA Cup tie at Aston Villa and added: "The medical tests have confirmed no damage in the ankle. It is only a knock and I need two days of rest. Because of this I think there are doubts over the FA Cup match but I will have to see.

"English football is physically very hard. In this aspect it is similar to Argentina but perhaps the referees need to be more severe with their actions. In my view I take too many heavy tackles in the Premier League.

"I played with the pain after the first kick I got against Birmingham but it was damaged and when I got hit there again it was impossible to carry on.

"But the papers have praised the goal and it really was spectacular in every detail.

"The first movement and the assist from Cristiano with his heel was fantastic. He is a master and a large percentage of that goal should be dedicated to him."

thats put the Brazilian baby swaying celebration to shame.

not many players would make themselves look complete idiots like that just to send a message to their family.
