I am going to vote 4.

I think the WC aftermath and his quotes from it are very telling. Up to that point he was nurtured and looked after by the fans, the board and SAF. The WC incident hits and he demands an exit.

Did Beckham want out when he was red carded against Argentina?

Did he bitch and complain about lack of support?

NO!!!

He stuck his head down and played some of his best football.

Now Ronaldo did the same, but only after demanding a sale, complaining about lack of support and getting a massive pay raise.

Then when he changes his tune, saying the fans, board and staff were wonderful, he keeps talking about one day playing in Spain.

I really try hard to be a fan of Ronaldo, but to me... he hasn't shown that he is Red Devil.

Maybe a good friend of mine is right. That I'll never give Ronaldo a fair shake.

But hey, for all the media circus, hollywood image one David Beckham brought, he was 120% for Manchester United.

The same cannot be said about Ronaldo.

P.S. He's gone in 3 - 4 years. World Transfer Record.

The differece between Beckham and Ronaldo, is that BEckham was brought up through the youth system, so of course he is going to have more loyalty to United, they are the team that gave him the shot to play top flight football.

WHile, Ronaldo is a transfer and obviously someone who has transfered in isn't going to have as much loyalty. I think it's unfair to say he is unloyal yet.

TIme will tell.

WOW,most of you are real mind hunters.I agree with what you wrote especially with rooney10 because less or much when you change your teams, this is your current job, profession.I chose as loyal as Garry Nevill for one reason-unless he is being transfered to another club,he's loyal. But after WC 2006 I said to myself-if he joins real madrid,he'll be the player I hate the most,if he stays-he's still my idol. And we know what happened.Mozart, your quotes were may be before Alex Ferguson stayed behind Ronaldo's back.Don't you think your club have to support you when you have troubles(they did and he showed his appreciation but this is before their support). Some of you are running out of the topic-don't compare Ronaldo's reaction to the Beckham's after their world cups because again-the topic isn't who is the bigger man,it is is Ronaldo loyal-I explain loyal in this case with :to play long time for the club in sign of your appreciation or just love, and every day when you're part of the club,to give your best for the clubs' success. And I think that is what Ronaldo is doing right now

I completely disagree with the notion that you'll have more loyalty if you come up through the ranks versus a transfer as a young player.

There have been many, many instances, where players come into a club and give and display there loyalty through and through. Immediate examples would be Zidane for Real Madrid, Henry for Arsenal, Rooney for United.

Secondly, Beckham's and Ronaldo's WC incidents can be compared, because both were getting major stick from the media and fans thereafter. One chose to keep quiet, commit to the club and go from there. The other, thought it was wise to demand a transfer. Then demand a wage increase.

Whether you like it or not, Ronaldo has not shown his loyalty to the club YET. Signing a lengthy contract means nothing. Because he can always request a transfer within the length of the contract.

As loyal as Neville. Hilarious

he did kiss the badge at the end of last season

but so did Pique. kissing the badge doesn't mean what it used to i guess

at the end of the day I put him about as loyal as Steven Gerrard

Quote:
Steven Gerrard Gerrard
He kisses the badge on his chest
He puts in a transfer request
Oh Gerrard Gerrard.

wait about 30 seconds:

TBH honest Funky, i think we have the answer we needed from this thread. Any chance we can close this one down. We all cherish every moment he's on the pitch for us. Let's just leave it at that. When he leaves, he leaves.

CLose the thread? AFter we have just had one of the best discussion's that I have seen on the forum? I hope that's not what this site is about.

Funkdoctor, for every 3 examples you come up with, it would be easy to name 5 on the other end.

I agree... The thread stays open provided there is some meaningful discussion on the subject. Which seems to be the case.

Also W10R. If its so easy to name 5 on the other end, why haven't you named one? I agree, that there probably are. Lets bring them to light and see if we can shed some more prospective from us, the fans on this topic.

Discussion back on...

WHat qualifies a player to be named? A top player from a teams that left, or has expressed intrest in leaving, but while at that team they have become good, not before (example: Beckham @ Real, since he was good before)?

---

Benzema, Berbatov, Beckham, Tevez (West Ham), Gerrard, and Drogba in case you don't count one of the others.

I'd agree with this. I don't see loyalty emanating from Ronaldo and I think a lot of that has to do with him being a foreign transfer. However, I think that there is some "cusp" down the line where someone becomes loyal to the club they're at (a certain age, certain amount of success, certain amount of fan support...etc). I see Cantona as a good example of this.

"Collar turned up, back straight, chest stuck out, he glided into the arena as if he owned the fucking place. Any arena, but nowhere more effectively than Old Trafford. This was his stage. He loved it, the crowd loved him" -Roy Keane on Eric Cantona
