Man Utd open Evra contract talks

From the BBC:

Manchester United have begun talks over a new deal with France international defender Patrice Evra.
United chief executive David Gill has already signed Nemanja Vidic and Edwin van der Sar on new deals.

And Ferguson said: "David spoke to Patrice's agents, so he will probably fix up a meeting with them."

Evra, 26, was signed by boss Sir Alex Ferguson in January 2005 and is now first-choice left-back after a tough start to his career at the club.

He initially struggled to adapt to the Premier League after arriving for £4m from Monaco before establishing himself in the 2006-2007 season.

Evra overtook Gabriel Heinze in the left-back pecking order and was a regular as United claimed the league title last season.

This is very good news for Patrice. He was concerned in the start of the season why nothing was being done about a new contract. This ought to make him happy. He's a great left back and I'm glad they're finally in talks.

Hopefully this will keep him focused on is game as he'll know his future is with this club. Definitely one of the best left backs in the world.
