Default Saha+Cash for Valencia?

Quote:
United In Valencia Bid?

Mancheser United are reportedly set to offer a cash plus Louis Saha deal for Wigan Athletic star Antonio Valencia.

The 22-year-old winger has been on impressive form for Latics this season and is thought to be a target of a number of big-name clubs.

United face Wigan in the final game of the season on Sunday and the two clubs may talk business after the match.

Saha would be thrown in to sweeten the deal as United are apparently looking to offload him.

The French striker has been plagued by injury all season and has scored just five times in 24 appearances.

I would love to see him playing for us, he is a talented and flair filled winger and would suit our style of play nicely, with his freqeunt pacey runs and neat crosses.

Along with Giggs slowly dropping in the rankings, and Ronaldo looking to play much more advanced, it would be great to have Valencia in the squad for some rotation and backup. Hopefully it would inspire Nani, Park, Giggs and himself if he joins, to up thier game in order to keep their place in the team.

Aren't we missing something here? We have TOO MANY wingers. Are you out of your mind? Where would he fit so well if we have so many midfielders?

Left wing: Nani, Giggs
Right wing: Hargo, Eagles
Both wings: Ronaldo, Park
Plus Rooney and Tevez. They often play wide on the wing!

If he comes, somebody's got to go. And give away a striker for a winger... to me it seems a wrong step!

To be honest I don't think we need to buy any player this summer. Not even a RB. We have Nev, who can still play at high level, and Brown, who has been performing very well lately.

Not sure that we really have too many wingers. Of the ones you mentioned, I think only 3 can be classed as true or specialist wingers: Ronaldo, Giggs, and Nani. Of those, Gigg's career is is nearing an end. So that leaves 2.

True, the other players have played on the wing, but that doesn't make them wingers. I would rather Hargreaves as a defensive midfielder, doing what he does best, than having him have to fill in on the wing.

"And give away a striker for a winger..." - We'll, as much as I am a fan of a FIT Saha, if he goes, I'm not sure that United will really feel much of a loss. We have had to cope without him for the vast majority of the season. I wish he could stay fit, but we have to assume that if he stayed it would be more of the same next year.

So we aren't really losing a striker, because this season we never really had him, sad to say.

Yes, we have only three true specialist wingers.

But still, why would we need another one with Park, Hargo and Eagles, who play on the wing?

I agree with zeus, we do have several players atm that can play on the wings. We can probably add fletcher to that list who played there once or twice.

However, we only have real 4 wingersimo . The likes of hargo and fletcher prefer to play CM. Giggs might probably has another 1-2 years in him but i wouldnt bet against him carrying on for more. I dont think competition for places is a bad thing though, it adds depth which is important when you play so many games a season. Fergie did say he doesnt need to bring in players but he will bring in a few anyway to add more depth to the squad.

As for saha going, i agree with rawdon. I think its about time. He is a good player when he is fit and brings something different to the table but he is just too injury-prone.

I don't understand the logic for bringing Valencia in.

United's midfield is packed and yes the argument can be made that Giggs will be retiring in a year, but I don't see how this move strengthens United's squad. Could someone like to clear this up?

Also, I would really like an academy player to be added instead. Now before I get cussed out, read my logic...

United winger depth chart 07/08:

Ronaldo
Giggs
Nani
Park
Fletcher
Rooney [sorry, still pissed at the Barcelona tieb ]

With Giggs retiring sooner or later (hopefully the latter), Nani and Park have more than enough class to start and play with the starting eleven. Fletcher can play the wing well and can fill in easily.

Why not give Eagles a shot?

Or if we are going to bring in a winger, go all out. There's this Brazilian that was suppose to sign early in the decade, but a communication problem between his agent (his bro) and United caused the deal to go through. Errr, why not him?

I just don't see the value in getting Valencia.

Yes Saha needs to be sold. I think we all are resigned to this fact. Who says he even wants to setup his medical practice for Wigan Athletic?

We need a specialist striker to replace Saha, not a winger. With Rooney injured, we really need a reliable backup. Thank God Ronaldo has had a magnificent season, but in quite a few games even with Rooney we missed too many opportunities to score and lost crucial points. That's where we need strengthening for next season.

First of all. No disrespect to Eagles; but he will never, thats never be good enough to be in our team, he's good, but not enough to be part of a league champions side.

As for Giggs, i have no doubt that he will make much fewer games next season, thats if he doesnt retire in the summer anyway. Leaving us with Ronaldo, Nani, Park who are naturally wingers. Then there is Ronaldo who is playing a much more free role striker position. Which could leave us with 2 natural wingers. It isn't unlikely for one to get injured, maybe even both. Valencia has alot to bring to the table and already has alot of EPL experience.

Yes, Hargo and fletcher can play there, it isnt there natural position, and im sure they would rather compete for a place in their position than only be able to get a start somewhere different in the abcence of someone else.

Valencia would be a great utility to us, and hopefully give Nani a run for his money, and get him to up a gear.
