Imho with the ole c ronaldo leaving, I'm hoping for the wingers racing down the wings again. And if that happens, we could definitely use a good striker. Benzema or Berbatov are the only ones I would consider.

I also think the rumor of United going head to head for that uraguian is all false, who knows maybe even United put it out there to send teams going in the wrong direction for players.

Default Re: Which striker do you want brought into the United fold this summer?

i hear Huntelaar is amitting some united interest. Personally there could be a better player to sign (BENZEMA!) but i would much rather take the younger, cheaper, and arguably better? option opposed to berbatov, being the moody and 1 hour a game player he is.

i think Huntelaar is a really good player, yet he may contradict the playing style of our other forward players an revert us to a more 'ruud' style of play. but if we are surcome to selling Ronaldo and we are in need of a cheap solid stricker id go for Klass.

However ahead of all that (if we dont sign a top striker whether ronny goes of not) we should think about what we already have. Theres Saha, yeah hes always out, but if he has a clear patch he can provide us with a good bit of service and is a top quality player; and gives us an extra dimention to our game to boot. Then theres Manucho, depending on whether he gets a work permit, he looks like a strong squad player, who will perform when called upon; who knows but, if he was found out when he was about 18, maybe he could be a player on par with eto'o. Fraizer Campbell has been on hot form for Hull city last season, and he may be a worth a chance against some of the lower league teams. Similarly to Campbell, Danny Wellbeck has impressed in the youth ranks and with a game that has been compared to Peter Crouch's (but not quite as tall) he could also be worth a game against the lower league teams.

Looking into the future we have both Federico Macheda and Davide Petrucci, two young italians who have both had big name comparisons of Dimitar Berbatov and Francesco Totti respectivly.

So thats my opinion of our striker situation, think of it what you will. But i firmly believe our priority is a Right Back (maybe who can play Left Back also) and someone lined up to be a direct replacement for Ronaldo if he leaves. Maybe the likes of Quaresma or Cazorla?

A few quick things..

Ruud after the 03-04 season really did slow down our play. It was not due to his playing style, more to do with injuries that he suffered. But to be fair, during that time we also had to change and slow down our playing style to accomodate Roy Keane in midfield. Keano was a legend, but looking back his age, and his injuries caught up with him and we had to significantly slow down our playing when he left. It's no surprise really that the season after Ruud and Keano left we were fucking flying once again.

As for strikers coming to United. Adriano, Zlatan, Berbatov and Henry can fuck right off. A group of moody, sulking prats who are over hyped these days and haven't really produced much in quite a while.

I still think we shouldn't have sold Rossi to be fair. Perhaps we should sign him back

Well according to some reports today United might be pushing to get Huntelaar's signature.

Quote:
Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar claims Manchester United are 'very interested' in signing him.

The 24-year-old's failure to agree a new contract at the Amsterdam ArenA has led to speculation he could be in line for a move, and the Holland frontman reckons the English champions are keen to acquire his services.

'I know certain English clubs are following me, like Manchester United, who are very interested in me,' he told Dutch reporters.

'I love clubs with great history like Ajax, I also love Manchester United.

'It's a club that makes me dream, especially as Ruud van Nistelrooy played there and did great things with them.

SOURCE
Tbh i think all the strikers we are linked with are quality in their own way, so i dont mind which player we sign. All i want is for them solve our height issues upfront and link the play with our midfielders, whoever does it is fine by me.

I hope we get berbatov to united .......... He is the player who can score in big matches
Younger players show too much nerves. Santa cruz comes in second.

Default Re: Which striker do you want brought into the United fold this summer?

I'm sorry but since when did Berbatov start scoring in big matches. I'm not doubting the fact that he is a quality player but lets be honest, Spurs havent really been in any 'big' matches recently. The only match which they can really count is the Carling Cup but if i remember correctly Berbatov scored a penalty which is what he should've done as he is considered a penalty taker along with Keane at Spurs. In the league he did score quite a few goals but he only scored 15 when really we need some like Ruud who is pretty much guranteed to break the 20 goals mark each season.

I'm not saying Berbatov will be a failure if he comes to Old Trafford but wanting to buy him because he scores a decent goal every once in a while is shit excuse to sign someone. I'd rather we took a chance on someone like Huntelaar or Benzema to be a success at United.

Going to have to agree with ak completely.

Berbatov has not shown that he's an out and out striker. Definitely not better than either Rooney or Tevez.

For his age bracket, there are way better strikers available that will fulfill the requirements of what United need.

Anyways, on the weekend rumours were floating that Huntelaar is a United target. Today, Huntelaar's agent has stated that no formal bid has been put in by United. Also, no inquiry with Ajax about Huntelaar has been established.

Quote:
No move for Huntelaar

United have not voiced an interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, according to the Ajax striker's agent.

The prolific 24-year-old claimed last weekend that he knew United were interested in him, and would relish a move to Old Trafford.

However, agent Arnold Oosterveer has conceded that the Reds' supposed interest has yet to yield a concrete bid, or even contact with the striker's club.

"For him, United is a club that is interesting, but unless a suitable club come in for him, he will be at Ajax next season," Oosterveer is claimed as saying in the Daily Mirror.

"There has been no contact between Ajax and United, or United and myself.

"We won't speak to Ajax any more about a new contract because they wanted to put a new clause in it, but he has two years to go."

Dont you think that if KJH was that good he would have a greater role in the holland squad? Or fergie would have been interested? Unfortunately we need a striker who can perform now (ie finished product ) and not someone who would take 5 years..
Berbatov although expensive is a lethal finisher. Not rooney or tevez.
I stress that maybe Berbatov isn't the perfect fit but we will need a guy who is atleast prepared for the league this season since i have a feeling that ronaldo will be in a lot of shit even if he stays.

Are we in a position to take chances with Benzema or KJH ? Fergie knows this and has not signed either so far. He might sign them but they are not his top priorities.

Arsenal had Adebayor who has not been the most reliable and screwed their campaign.Eduardo was fantastic till he got injured.
Liverpool have an amazing striker in Torres.
Chelsea have/had Drogba & shevvy(who hasnt performed i know).

Basically all of them except Arsenal had finished products.

Look, the bottom line is that of the big-name strikers who are realistically available right now, especially with an eye to a long-term solution rather than someone already in their late 20s or older, Huntelaar and Benzema are the best options.

And what's all this about a "finished product"? If that's the case, then what's the point of ever signing prospects like Nani or Anderson most recently. Oh hey, here's another "unfinished product" from a couple of years ago: Cristiano Ronaldo.

If Manchester United is in need of a finished product that badly, we should sign Michael Owen. He's pretty much finished.
