At this point in time I would say Berbatov. He has already showed he can get the goals in the Premiership, Huntelaar however has an amazing goal scoring record, but has only being proven in Holland. Kezman, the former Chelsea player also had a great record in Holland but coming into the Premiership and European football he just couldn't do it.

So it's Berbatov for me as I reckon it would be better to have someone with Premiership experiance, but he may go for the option of bringing no-one in and just look to get the best out of Manucho and Campbell.

I've long been a Berbatov fan. I know some here don't want him at United, but I think the guy is a finisher, and that's what we need right now. We have so many attacking options, but getting a scorer would still be a big boost. I love Rooney, but his scoring hasn't been great. I think Berbatov will do more scoring with the same chances... that's not to say I'd take him in a swap for Rooney, however. I love Rooney's work rate with Tevez and hopefully the three of them on the picth at the same time would be deadly.

Personally I am baffled by all the people that have voted for Huntelaar. I think he's an incredibly one dimensional player. Yes he can finish and hold the ball up but he can't do much else. I think most people who are so in favour of him joining seem to think he is as good as a clone of Van Nistelrooy. Not the case.

In Euro 2008 when Holland really badly needed a goal how many minutes did this guy get on the pitch? And that is with a very attack minded coach In Van Basten in charge........ZERO...that's how many. That has to say something I think.

Berbatov is 27 which is a little older than I would like but he has so many more qualities. He is actually quicker than people realise but granted not properly fast...but his touch, technique and finish are all first rate. He is good a dead balls, great in the air, great at holding it up and if and when he comes deep he is very creative. We need this fluency in our attack.

I think the argument that we need an old fashioned target man is totally bunk. We just won the European Cup and back to back premier league titles without one. Instead we had a fluid front line. What we lacked was a little variation in that at times it would have been great to have an aerial presence or a stronger physical presence but even with the addition of Berbatov I don't expect to see us change our style of play at all. Berbatov is going to drop deep at his discretion. Against most teams I can see Utd playing a 4-2-3-1 next season with Berbatov nominally leading the line and Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo interchaning as an attackign trident behind him. Then there would be any combinaiton of Anderson, Scholes, Carrick and Hargreaves as the two anchors. Back four for the moment picks itself.

In the matches against top domestic or European sides much more likely to play a 4-3-3/4-5-1 with three of Anderson, scholes, carrick and hargreaves in a tight midfield three and Rooney, Ronaldo and Berbatov up front. Rooney would play closer to the left wing and Ronaldo the right, although both would cut in at will.

This is where Berbatov's physical presence and ability to lead the line would be most useful.....in some of those european away nights last season Tevez looked a little lightweight and isolated. Unlike huntelaar Berbatov has the ability from that role to bring other players into the game with a clever pass, neat flick or just great hold up play and distribution. Huntelaar isn't much more than a lethal poacher.

The best two target men I have seen in my life time (on talent alone) are Didier Drogba and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Berbatov has a little bit of both about him (without being quite the power houses they are) but with a little Cantona thrown in.

In this day and age where pace and power are winning the war over artistry I am thrilled to see a signing like this being talked about. Cantona made my heart sing with his vision and flair whereas Alan Shearer made me fall asleep. Great striker but no real panache. As much as I loved RVN for all the goals he scored for United, he never quite thrilled my soul the way an on form Dennis Bergkamp could. It must be the romatic in me.........

One quick addendum to this brief rant is to go back to my assertion that DD and RVN are the best target men I have seen in my lifetime and although this is true i have to say that there was one other player that could lead the line by himself in a way that no other player has ever managed to do again and I would go as far as to say that if he hadn't gotten as badly injured as he did he may have been today regarded as perhaps the best player that ever lived, or within touching distance at least..........that man is Ronaldo. As is the lardy Brazilian variety not the greasy Portuguese kind.

Before he blew his knee out so badly right after France '98 he was practically unstoppable. It is amazing that a player can then spend the best part of three years completely inured and still then come back (albeit a shadow of his former self) and win a world cup and several league titles. By all rights he should never have been able to come back at all. It is sad that the people that managed the early part of his career wrecked him physically because he truely was a sight to behold.

Huntelaar scores goals at a very high rate. Absolutely lethal finisher.

The reason why he didn't play much in Euro 08 is because the style of attack that Van Basten implored did not suit Huntelaar's game.

I'm not going to state about Berbatov anymore. I think I've covered it more than once...

I'll just say I'm pleased that United have not met the ridiculous valuation of Berbatov from the Spuds.

In any event, Sir Alex has indicated once again that a new striker will be coming. Dangit, I hope its Eto'o...

Sir Alex Ferguson is aiming to add a striker to his Manchester United squad before the start of the season.

United have been heavily linked with a bid for Tottenham Hotspur star Dimitar Berbatov as Ferguson looks to improve his attacking options.

With Wayne Rooney struggling with a virus, Cristiano Ronaldo out until October, and Louis Saha continuing to battle with his fitness, Ferguson is short of cover up front.

The likes of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Karim Benzema have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford, and Ferguson confirmed he has several options to consider.
Hoping

"We are looking at three or four different options in the striking department which I hope will come to a happy conclusion," said Ferguson.

"Hopefully we will have someone in for the start of the season."

Meanwhile, Ferguson has suggested Saha has a future with the champions, despite the French striker's injury troubles throughout his United career.

"You don't want to give up on people like that just because they have had a few injuries," added Ferguson.

Explosive

"When he is fit, Louis is an explosive player who will guarantee 20 goals a season.

"Louis is on a programme at the moment which we feel will get him to 100% fitness.

"It is more about his confidence in doing this programme which will get him back playing all the time. Hopefully that is the case because he is such a fantastic player."
