They are long term solutions but i doubt if they are good enough short term solutions. They have to get used to the premier league style of play...
The other teams have top finishers right now.

Don't cite Christiano Ronaldo. Not all players will reach his level. You remember he was very inconsistent in the first 2 seasons. You cant afford to have a very inconsistent striker in united now. The League wasn't as competitive then and you could afford Ronaldo (We didn't do very well then anyway).

We have full time replacements for Nani and Anderson( giggs/ronaldo , Carrick/Scholes ).We don't play them all the time.

One thing which might push the argument in favor of you is that United have a young squad and a young player will fit in.

"As United seek victory at Wigan to secure the club's 17th title, Ferguson has admitted for the first time that his priority is to find an experienced forward to complement his already formidable attacking options.

That will inevitably reinforce the belief that the United manager plans to prise Berbatov, the elegant Bulgarian striker, from Tottenham Hotspur.

Ferguson said: "We will buy in the summer. I'm quite happy with the one or two things we have done. In the striker department we have young Danny Welbeck, who's got a great future, and Fraizer Campbell, who's done a fantastic job on loan at Hull this year.

"We'll also have Manuchu back from Panathinaikos. He showed in the Africa Cup of Nations what a big, powerful striker he is. So, along with Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney, we've got planty of strength in that department. But we do need experience."

Alex Ferguson: Dimitar Berbatov fits the bill - Football News - Telegraph

Nothing much has changed since then. That adds to my argument for an experienced striker.

Berbatov's agent 'confirms' Man Utd interest

SOFIA, July 13 (Reuters) - Manchester United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgaria captain's agent said on Saturday.

British media earlier reported that the European and Premier League champions had made a 20 million pounds ($39.53 million) bid for the gifted marksman, saying United were prepared to offer Berbatov 80,000 pounds a week to move to Old Trafford.

'I know for certain Manchester United have shown interest in signing Dimitar Berbatov,' agent Emil Danchev told Bulgaria's Darik radio. 'But I'm not entitled to make any more comments.'

Last year, United also made enquiries about the possibility of signing Berbatov but he stayed with the north London club.

The striker turned down an offer from United when he joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen for 16 million euros in 2006.

The 27-year-old has been linked with some of Europe's other top clubs following excellent performances in his first two seasons in England. He was instrumental in helping Tottenham win the League Cup last season - their first trophy since 1999.

Looks like we're gonna get him now which means Huntelaar is probably going to go to Arsenal if they sell Adebayor.

Not so fast.

It seems that a big Premier League Club has put in an offer for Kun.

Those of you that don't know who El Kun is, well...

Wiki: Sergio Agüero - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This wonderkid is a beast.

My own concerns with him is height really and European experience. But he definitely has enough skill and talent to seamlessly integrate himself into the United side.

Last season he scored 19 times and assisted on 7 on 38 starts.

Not bad at all.

Here's the news bit on the possible United link:

Quote:
One of England's top clubs are poised to launch a bid for Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero, the player's agent has revealed.

At just 20 years old, 'El Kun' is already one of Europe's hottest properties, with Atletico having to fight to keep hold of their Argentinian star last summer after he won the Golden Boot and player of the tournament awards at the Under-20 World Cup in Canada.

His stock rose further last season as he netted 20 goals in 37 Primera Liga games while picking up Spain's player of the year award in just his second 12 months on the continent.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has repeatedly denied ever having received a bid for the striker, but with plenty of interest in the young star reported in January, the capital club felt moved to increase Aguero's buy-out clause to 55million euros.

However, according to the player's representative, Jose Segui, even that huge sum will not be enough to put off one of the English Premier League's top sides.

And while he stopped short of naming names, Segui insisted the interested party was not Chelsea.

'I've received an offer from a big English club and they've asked me to pass that offer on to Atletico Madrid,' Segui told Spanish newspaper AS.

'I can't say anything more until I've spoken to the club about this definite offer.

'I can only say that it's one of the best clubs in Europe and it's not Chelsea.'

The belief in Spain is that Manchester United are the club in question, as they are seen by the Spanish media as the only club other than Chelsea capable of affording the player.

However, they may face a challenge luring the player to England's North West, as 'El Kun' has repeatedly stated that he is happy with his life in Madrid.

United target Aguero staying with Atletico

Sergio Aguero has ruled out the possibility of a move to Chelsea or Manchester United by insisting he wants to stay at Atletico Madrid 'for one or two years more'.

The 20-year-old former Independiente forward, who is training with Argentina's Olympic team, insists he is enjoying his time in Spain too much to think about a move to England.

He told Radio La Red: 'I only want to stay at this club (Atletico Madrid) because I'm happy.

'We always have teams who want you in their squads. What matters is the place where I'm happy and I'm very comfortable at Atletico.

'I'm not thinking about moving anywhere.'

ESPNsoccernet - Europe - United target Aguero staying with Atletico
Looks like Aguero is staying put so that just leaves Berbatov and Huntelaar. If we do sign one of them i reckon its gonna be Berbatov simply because Fergie knows what he can do in the Premiership and work on improving it. Having said that i might be wrong..

Man Utd confident over Berbatov

Sir Alex Ferguson expects to prise striker Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham by the end of the summer.

Reports have suggested the Manchester United boss has made a £22m bid for the 27-year-old but that Spurs want more.

"We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through," Ferguson told The Sun newspaper.

"Berbatov has been impressive for a long time and he would be a great addition to our attack."

Barcelona have also shown an interest in the Bulgarian following the exit of Ronaldinho to AC Milan and with Samuel Eto'o also set to leave but Ferguson is happy to bide his time over a player who scored 23 goals for Tottenham last season.

Speaking at the start of the club's pre-season tour of South Africa, the Scot said: "I think time will work for us more than against us.

"We will not stress this situation. We are hoping to have a constructive conversation with Tottenham in the near future."Ferguson has also insisted any deal for Berbatov would not mean winger Cristiano Ronaldo moving to Real Madrid.

"We will handle the situation in the best manner," he added.

According to Portuguese television station RTP, Ferguson met Ronaldo in Lisbon on Monday in a bid to persuade the player that his future lies at Old Trafford but that was on the back of reports suggesting the United manager was unable to fit such a meeting into his busy schedule.

Portugal star Ronaldo was ruled out of the trip to South Africa because he had surgery on an ankle problem earlier this month and faces up to 12 weeks on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Ferguson is confident that Owen Hargreaves will be fit for the start of the season in August, despite the United midfielder suffering a recurrence of the tendinitis problem that first surfaced at the start of the last campaign.

Hargreaves is also sitting out the pre-season tour but Ferguson insisted: "By the time we come back from South Africa, Owen should be okay.

"We have certainly not written him off for the start of the season. He will have a series of injections in his knee but I am sure he will be fine."

Well if the boss has said he's confident in signing Berbatov before the season starts the negotiations must be well under way... no Eto'o for Funky.

This is no surprise ak.

Eto'o has never been linked to United, so I'm not too disappointed.

I just hope United stick to there guns and don't overpay for his services. That's my concern.

Both Sir Alex and David Gill are travelling for the African preseason tour, so if I'm not mistaken, United lawyer Maurice Watkins will be handling negotiations.

He was the one who secured Tevez's transfer from West Ham to United. So hopefully he is able to get it done in a timely and fiscally responsible mananer in this instance.

always trust the scummy lawyer to get the busienss done. I look forward to picking up my berbatov kit come September 1. As a bulgarian, this is massive, I just wish he wouldn't have been sucha tool two years ago when we wanted 10 million pounds for him.

I just can't see where all of this Berbatov hate is coming from. I have never in my life seen someone with a better first touch than he has and his finishing is absolutely class. Yes, he might sulk sometimes but this is SAF we're talking about. Do you really think that he would put up with that kind of crap from anyone? The fact that he is a proven EPL striker is also another huge plus. The only thing that is putting me off of him is how much Tottenham are going to demand for him, even if they let him go. 30 million quid is quite a lot of money to spend.

Berbatov for more than 20 million is a no no, Class player but for me 18 million would be enough, I would prefer to see Huntelaar, But he is a young striker unproven at a european level.
