How do you explain the CL final ? Or the away game with Chelsea in the Premiership ? Carrick is good but not good enough.

The away game against Chelsea turned out to be an impressive game but what did Spurs have to play for?? Its not like they were challenging for the title or even a CL spot so its not like it was a big game.

That is some rather spectacular logic. Let's sign players just so we can play them out of position. WTF?

I'm trying to understand the root of your contempt for Carrick. He's been solid if unspectacular for us, which is basically his modus operandi anyway. Do we need another player with a knack for the spectacular and with tons of flair? If so, why?

Champions' League final = match played in bad conditions on a pitch hastily prepared and against an opponent all too familiar with United's play. Furthermore, I hope you're aware that Michael Carrick played 390 minutes vs. Chelsea this past season. The more you play one opponent, the harder it gets to stand out against them at any given time. You pick on Carrick for underperforming during that night in Moscow, you pick on most of United's players that evening.

At Stamford Bridge a month earlier? Tactical backfiring on Sir Alex' part. The man is human, after all. And I hope you're not holding that penalty decision against him, since that could just as easily have been anyone else.

You guys do realise if we picked up sneijder , we'd be in the same situation we are in w/ this disgrace to our beloved number 7 right? He has stated publicly that Real is his dream club!

As for the other loon with that dream... have any of you read what he said today? Supposedly he is backing what Blatter has stated about "slavery" . He then went on to say "you've heard what "...well I'll just quote it

""I completely agree with the statements of the president, he is right," Ronaldo told Portuguese broadcaster TVI on Thursday.

Ronaldo reiterated his previously stated desire to join the Spanish champion, but no transfer request has been submitted and he has almost four years left on his United contract.

"You know what I said, what I want and what I would like," he said after leaving a physiotherapy session. "Now I have to wait and see."

If what he is saying is what I'm thinking he s saying...calling United out to make a move...I hope they either get the very large, larger than 70 million quid, fee or let him rot in the stands. He has sunk to new lows, if the above is true.

Do you propose to leave the midfield as it is ? You have to accept Carrick is a limited player. He is not World Class. No contempt for him or Fletcher. Sir Alex might stick with them because they work hard. In the end you have to accept that they are better midfielders among united's rivals.

Oh yeah, then how did Chelsea play so well?
Carrick did not underperform, he couldn't do better. Scholes and Rooney underperformed.
Btw I was happy with most United players in the CL Final.

Abhiramj, have you watched fletcher and carrick in the big games? They are quite often both extremely influential to victory, especially in those big games. I'm not gonna try to convince you, but if you get the chance, watch those big matches from the past five years and you may just see what they do contribute to the squad.

As for Rooney, for a long time now I've thought that he will come out with guns ablazing when all those Euro players will be not quite ready to start the season.

As for Bastian, as I think I've stated before, he would bring back our wing play that I think has been lacking and he coupled with Brown/Neville and a possible Hunter in the line up, I think we will see lots of offense still. I also think that Rooney is taking Capello's words that he needs to work on his finishing , to heart. Its just a hunch I have. I think that the fact that the big man publicly recognised that he's a very unselfish player and needs to be more selfish, will cause him to step back and do just that.

No midfield is perfect, but there are bigger needs at United right now. Carrick's position is certainly not one I'm consider an area of concern currently. No contempt for Carrick? It seems like all you have for him is contempt.

It's not as if they played United off the park on either occasion. If they were really playing that well, they would've wrapped up victory handily.

Pretty convenient.

Let me interject here. Carrick is playing perfectly well for United. 11 World Class players dont' necessarily make a world class team. We all know that individually there are better players out there than Michael Carrick, but the fact is he fits the bill perfectly at United, without complaining might i add. I feel we have the perfect blend of players in central midfield, no need to change a thing.
