One thing you can never fault Phil Brown (Hull City manager) for ...
Perseverance !! That guy has spent the whole summer on the phone to Fergie begging to be allowed to sign our man Fraizer Campbell. I don't blame him either as Campbell almost siingle handedly dragged Hull into the Premier League with his goal last season. Not that this is a good place for Hull to be right now, but at least they can say "We were there for one year anyway" before being swept away like Derby, without reaching double figures in their points tally. Mr Brown tried to be a bit cheeky early on with a bid of £2m which made me laugh like a goodun. Rumour has it the bid is now nearer £5m which is a bit more resp- ectable I guess. Brown must realise though, that the chances of getting a reply are zero until the Berbatov saga finishes. We're not exactly well inundated with strikers right now. If the Berba deal goes belly up Brown can forget it I think, I wouldn't rate his chances of landing Campbell then. Any thoughts ? Don't be shy, we don't bite, unless asked to ... ![]() Last edited by carlyluvsunited; 08-21-2008 at 07:51 AM. |

In all fairness , if ( and a big IF ) we do wrap up berbatov , there is absolutely no doubt that campbell should be given a chance to try out in some league team , on loan obviously . But we don't want another Rossi-Roeder here .
It was a magical loan spell last season for him . If Fergie does believe that the lightning can strike twice , then well all the best to the lad . About a permanent move , i don't see it happening as yet . Maybe next season . Shame really . Its almost impossible to break into the first 11 for a manutd youth player . |

I will be bitterly dissapointed if we sell him. He is a fantastic prospect, and we would be stupid to let him go. I don't want to see another good young striker leave the club. I still think selling Rossi wasn't the greatest move, but at least things worked out for him....
If we do sign Berba, maybe a loan would do Campbell good, and would give him a real shot at making the United eleven, but unless we get a solid backup for our front two he should stay. Even if we did sign Berba though, I'd like Campbell to stay on, I think Wellbeck would be better suited for a loan deal.

I'm afraid that Fraizer will end up on loan again. Now that Manucho got his work permit and we're so close to singing Berbatov, there are few chances for Campbell to get more that a couple of matches in the cups.

Sending Fraizer to the reserves would be a big mistake IMO; you can't compare the reserves' matches with PL matches.

Let him go, at least on loan to a Prem side. He wot make the grade at United Im afraid to say. Lets be realistic lads. With Rooney, Tevez, Saha, Manucho and Berba if he comes ALL ahead of him, what chance does he have. Even Wellbeck has more potential. I like Campbell, seems like a good hard working kid, but too much of a headless chicken if you ask me. He wont make it at United, no chance. Just think about it. Will he take Berba, Roo, Tev out of the team? No...Will he even take Manucho or Saha (if still here) out of the team? Doubt it. Loan him and see how he gets on in the Prem, playing each week. You never know he could be up for the job. Doubtful but ya never know. If we can get 5-7 million for him then take the cash but not till after this season.

Chicken with its head cut off? Hmm...there are a few United players that could get tagged with that expression at times (I'm looking at you, Park), but being all over the pitch doesn't mean you're playing without purpose or even being ineffective - just look to Tevez. If Campbell had scored that header, would you still be saying he was running around clueless? I agree with you about Anderson and the Olympics, by the way.

I don't know how people can count
Sahahaha when talking about our forwards. I stopped doing that 2 years ago. Without Berbatov, we need Campbell, more then he needs us probably, lol. OK we throw Manucho in but what if he can't cope with the Premiership ? It happens. So even with Manucho, he is still needed. However, if Berbatov turns up at the front door he would be better off getting a loan deal. Sunderland would be good, thats like playing for United's reserves anyway ![]() |

i absolutely agree with you prongs, especially since he's already had a stint in Tyneside. Actually Everton isn't a bad idea.
As for Manucho, I have many doubts about him. While he may be tall and pacey, his ability to cope in this league is still very much in the air, and from what I understand, his time in Greece was not particularly impressive. He's definitely more of a work-in-progress than Frazier Campbell. As fans we constantly complain about not giving the kids a chance and here we are trumpeting the incoming Berbatov, wilst a hungry Frazier Campbell is on the bench. I'd rather keep the lad and work on him more, than chuck him to the side at the first sign that there's a Bulgarian on the horizon.
