Spurs new boy Campbell relishing the chance to step into Berbatov's boots



Fraizer Campbell is excited at the prospect of playing for Tottenham after his deadline-day transfer to White Hart Lane.

Campbell, 20, signed a one-year loan deal with Spurs as a makeweight in the £32million transfer of Dimitar Berbatov that saw the Bulgarian go to Manchester United.

His transfer will come as a blow to Hull, where he enjoyed a fruitful loan spell last year.

Tigers boss Phil Brown had tried desperately to bring the England Under-21 international back to the KC Stadium, while Steve Bruce also made a late bid to take him to Wigan.

But with the sale of Berbatov going through so close to the transfer deadline, it left Juande Ramos little time to find a replacement, prompting the Spurs boss to take Campbell on loan to beef up his attack.

Campbell said: 'I was up since half past seven and had so many calls. At one point it was looking like I was going to one place and then things would change and then I would be going somewhere else.

'But I'm really excited to be going to Tottenham. They are a big club, with a good manager and they are building a really good team.

'It's disappointing to leave United but when you get a chance to play for a club like Tottenham you have to take it.

'I would have liked to stay at United but with Berbatov coming in the gaffer felt I might be better served going somewhere else to get some games.'

When I read the headlines today, I thought Fergie is crazy. I read the news about Berba's arrival from my cell phone. When I read that Cambell went to Spurs I thought that Fergie has again made a stupid mistake. But then I saw that our youngster is on loan. Thank God. Losing another prospect player was the last thing we needed.

As Spurs have only a couple of strikers, Fraizer will get plenty of games and will come back with more experience. I think that everyone benefits from this move and I hope to see Campbell back, next summer, challenging a place in our team.

The fact that he is an English player, makes him 10 timer more valuable in my eyes then youngsters from other countries. That's why I think we should never sell him if he becomes good enough for United.

yeah I have to agree Zeus. This part of the deal was a very positive move and I'm quite happy with the result. In his first few games Frazier was rushing his shots and I think the anxiety of being a United striker was getting to him and affecting his decision making. Now that he's seen and been exposed to the Old Trafford limelight, he might be well served in establishing himself at White Heart Lane without the worries about being benched by Ferguson. Now he only has to prove he can produce the goals that Hull thinks he can.

Agreed, I think that given time he would have started to figure on the scoresheet, but he was almost thrown in at the deep-end with the current injuries, and I think he was anxious, just like Forlan started getting anxious.

Now with this deal we get an experienced striker straight away, AND after a year, an experienced Frazier Campbell. Very happy it is a loan deal (and that the tapping up charges are gone)

Tbh, now that we've signed the Incredible Sulk, I think Campbell will be gone next summer, whether to Tottenham or some other team.

i dont think that he will be gone, unless he really isnt good enough for our team. Fergie wont let a promising young english player leave.

Getting a good spell in the premier league will really help him get some valuable expirience and gain some confidence when playing against premiership defenders. Im interested into seeing how well he does this season. If one of spurs other strikers gets injured then he has a great chance to showcase his skills.

I was also stoked to see Campbell go only on a loan. I think he is definitely in the Ferguson's plans and I am extremely confident he will not be sold at the end of the season. He should gain some very good experience at Tottenham and he will be surrounded by some good players to help that progression.

The only way I can see him being sold is if he drastically under performs at Tottenham.

I just honestly think that he'll be gone next summer. Either that or he'll stay, be promised first-team football, won't get a sniff and then ask to leave after a year/18 months.

We've all heard in the past about players being "in Fergies plans" then a couple of months/a year later their gone.

Campbells future at United doesn't look good from where I'm looking. But thats just my opinion.

I think it is a great deal and Campbell will have more matchs there than in United for this year.
I think he will come back stronger and with more experience and it is will be great for United.

if he can show an improvement, a chance to the first team will be open for him i guess...
