Manchester United are believed to be plotting a move for Porto defender Jose Bosingwa.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be drawing up a list of targets as he continues his search for a long-term replacement for Gary Neville.

With doubts surrounding Neville's fitness and Wes Brown set to leave at the end of the season after rejecting a new deal, Ferguson is keeping tabs on Bosingwa's progress.

United have showed a liking for the Portuguese transfer market after bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson in recent years and Bosingwa could be the next target.

Old Trafford assistant manager Carlos Queiroz has confirmed Bosingwa is one of a number of Porto players they are tracking.

"There are some Porto players good enough to play for United if they want to Jose is one of them," Queiroz is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"He is a very good player and we are keeping an eye on him."

Aston Villa are also thought to be keen on Bosingwa as Martin O'Neill looks to bolster his defensive options.

This guys is on pretty many club's wishlist. Even Aston Villa was looking at him and some Spanish clubs as well. However I don't think Porto are willing to let him go in the winter. They have been doing quite well in the CL and they definitely want to go further in CL.

and if United are interested in Jose, that goes to show that they are:

a. deflecting interest from other teams with regards to there real target
b. are still looking for a right back
c. hoping Wesley Brown signs his blasted contract

We'll know soon enough wha the answer is.

would be good to have cover for neville at right-back, can't rely on brown if he won't sign the contract, however lahm will be best fit to cover neville me hopes, up the reds

Porto deny United Bosingwa raid

Porto have rejected claims that Manchester United have made a move to bring highly-rated full-back Jose Bosingwa to Old Trafford in the summer.

United have been strongly linked with a summer move for the defender as they search for a long-term replacement for Gary Neville.

The 25-year-old has refused to rule out a move away from Estadio do Dragao, but Porto president Pinto da Costa insists they have had no offer from United for Bosingwa.

Da Costa revealed Aston Villa had a bid rebuffed for Bosingwa last year and Porto are keen to keep hold of the defender.

"We have not had a proposal [from Manchester United]," Da Costa told O Jogo.

"In the past year, Aston Villa revealed themselves to be an interested party, but we did not accept the proposal.

"He is another of the players we intend to keep."

Quaresma wanted out of Barca due to Rijkaard. Plus, we don't need anymore wingers. I hear Liverpool wants Quaresma but that's been the rumor for 3 years now. Porto wants big money for him (40 million euros) . . .

I think Bosingwa is the answer. He'd be cheaper than Lahm but can't play with both feet as well as him (not as adept at LB). However, we got Eva over there. I believe he'd be the mirror image. He could overlap just as well and has no problem on the wing. He's the creative full back (although listed as an RWB in all my guides) we've been looking for . . .
