I heard of the double vision, halos and sensitivity to bright light. But severe eye pain? :|
With all the side effects, why would folks get this procedure? In fact, what is the success rate, in terms of patients not suffering any of the side effects mentioned? Quote:

The old process involved cutting a cap of the cornea, the newer processes are very quick and strictly involve the laser and no cutting, which is where most of the errors occurred. All of the failed procedures these days are really caused because of poor screening.
I've considered doing it and it's really a brilliant procedure and great technology. I don't doubt that there needs to be better screening and in particular some sort of ratings system for doctors, because the doctors you go to truly need to be specialists with years of experience in the field, not just in LASIK. I went to a few doctors and the best advice I received wasn't from the LASIK specialists, but from the experienced optometrists. They have to deal with the delude of questions and I personally believe that their gray hair isn't biased. For instance there are negative effects even if the operation is 100% successful. Like with contacts your near sightedness will worsen, and compounded with worsening nearsightedness due to age, I choose to stick with contacts because LASIK was too permanent. In my opinion the people who choose to go with LASIK do it for convenience and have used contacts and glasses for years. While I wear daily contacts, it's not really that big of a pain that I would want to risk it. I might have to spend an extra grand a decade with my contacts, but I'm guaranteed to have the choice of taking out the contacts and improving my nearsightedness and I have zero risk for a failed procedure. I know people who have had complications and those who swear by the process, but at the end of the day, the permanence of it was too permanent and the risk was still too high, no matter how qualified the LASIK surgeons I found.
