The philosophical explanation of karma can differ slightly between traditions, but the general concept is basically the same. Through the law of karma, the effects of all deeds actively create past, present, and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life, and the pain and joy it brings to him/her and others. The results or 'fruits' of actions are called karma-phala. In religions that incorporate reincarnation, karma extends through one's present life and all past and future lives as well.

some people think it's rubbish why others think that there is an absolutely great force saying you get what you deserve. i'll give my thoughts after a few posts so i don't taint any views. do you believe in karma and give reasons...

OK, I didn't quite understand everything from the definition above so I found a more easy one: Karma - Person's actions in previous lives, believed to decide his or her fate in future existences.

I am a Christian, so I do not believe this rubbish. As the Bible says, after people die their souls go to Heaven and live forever there in peace and harmony. So there is no reincarnation, at least I don't believe there is.

No, i dont.

I believe life is a test from god and although sometimes you get what you deserve during your life, that doesnt always happen and you might get it after your life, bit good or bad.

I do however believe that what you get in life is directly influenced by what you do, your personality and how you treat others. Its pretty obvious really. If you treat people good, people will like you. If people like you, they will try and treat you good. Doesnt mean everyone will treat you good but it will never the less help you. Its nothing to do with karma and the indian religions imo, it just logic.

I dont believe in that reincarnation stuff. Way more people are being born than there are people dying. How does that work?

i meant it more in the what goes around comes around.

maybe urban dictionary is a better source

Urban Dictionary: karma
Quote:
1. The Buddhist belief that whatever you do comes back to you, e.g. if you do something good, something good will happen to you, and vice versa.

2. the belief that all of your actions will have equal reprecussions, affecting you.

3. Karma is a word from the philosophy of many Indian religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism). The basic theory is that the universe runs according to certain laws, all described by one word 'Dharma' (Sanskrit) or 'Dhamma' (Pali). The basic theory is: 'cause and affect'. The laws (Dharma) decide what affect is beget from a given cause. Karma is the 'cause' part of this theory. In other words, your actions - mental, vocal and physical are your Karma (plural).

Please note that in the Buddhist philosophy, Dharma does not 'punish' or 'reward' anyone. The concepts of good and bad don't exist here. For example, gravity is one of the laws of the universe, and if you jumped off a building and killed yourself, we wouldn't say that gravity was punishing you.

4. the saying of 'what goes around comes around'

7. George Bush is our Karma for NOT PAYING ATTENTION!!!

8. Smackdown of the Gods

Not at all, I can't see what would decide how this works. Especially considering I'm not religious in the slightest.

I suppose Roma's penalty could be put down to karma, but I would just put that down to poor penalty taking.

Randy can't structure a sentence that long, so no he hasn't used that phrase before.

I believe in karma. I also believe in reincarnation, but not necessarily in the sense that you die and come back as another person. I believe your spirit houses another being after you die, not necessarily human and not necessarily right after you die either.

Sorry, I was going by the definition that you posted. I also very rarely, if ever use that saying.
