Former Manchester United ace Mark Hughes sells £6million mansion after losing planning row with current star Michael Carrick

Quote:
t's the sort of fight you would expect two Premiership icons to have on the field, but football has nothing to do with the ongoing row between Blackburn boss Mark Hughes and Manchester United star Michael Carrick.

Premiership manager Hughes has decided to sell his £6million Cheshire mansion following a massive planning row with the Manchester United midfielder.

The Blackburn Rovers boss has lived in his detached mansion for 15 years and is selling up after Carrick was granted permission to expand his mansion, which is across the road from Hughes.

Hughes shares the home with his wife Jill. Together, they have painstakingly renovated and extended the mansion, making it one of the most expensive houses for sale in Cheshire.

Mark Huges and Michael Carrick

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes is selling his £6million Cheshire mansion following a planning row with Manchester United star Michael Carrick

The former Old Trafford legend had earlier cried foul over Carrick's plans to bulldoze the house directly opposite him and build a £4million mansion in its place.

Former Wales striker Hughes reckoned the new development was much too big and that the two bedrooms in the loft space would overlook his own mansion.

Hughes, 44, instructed planning experts to write to Macclesfield Council on his behalf to try to boot out plans for the seven bedroom home which will feature an indoor swimming pool, gym, cinema, library and a wine cellar in the basement.

The letter, on behalf of Hughes and his wife, states: "The current scheme raises a number of concerns.

"It is clear that the replacement dwelling would be materially larger than the existing dwelling.

"The existing dwelling is a semi-modern two storey property, with a horizontal emphasis that is consistent with neighbouring houses.

"The proposed dwelling would be considerably taller and would introduce a third storey.

"The overall scale, form and massing of the proposed 'Queen Anne' design would be completely out of character with the scale and proportions of surrounding dwellings. As a result, it would appear over-dominant within the street scene.

"It is therefore submitted that the proposed replacement dwelling would be materially larger than the existing dwelling and would have a noticeably greater impact on the open and spacious character of this Green Belt setting.

"On this basis, it constitutes inappropriate development in the Green Belt, which by definition, is harmful.

"Furthermore, the third storey dormers that would be introduced to the front elevation of the proposed dwelling would exacerbate overlooking into the house, thereby unacceptably reducing the level of privacy currently enjoyed by my clients.

"For the above reasons, it is respectfully suggested that the proposal fails to comply with national planning policy and the requirements of the Macclesfield Borough Local Plan. As such, it represents inappropriate development in the Green Belt.

"As the applicant has failed to advance any considerations which amount to the very special circumstances necessary to clearly outweigh the harm caused by reason of inappropriateness and to the openness of this particular part of the North Cheshire Green Belt, the proposal should be refused."

Despite Hughes trying to give the scheme the red card, the proposal was passed and work kicked off soon after. It is due to be completed soon.

But now Hughes has now decided to sell his seven bedroom mansion which stands in around three acres.

All the bedrooms are ensuite and the house has a leisure complex, snooker room, drawing room and huge family kitchen making it one of the most spectacular houses currently on the market in leafy Cheshire.

a bit like the ronaldo case where people were complaining because his house was "too big" and bad for the environment.

im sure if hughes takes over from SAF in a few years time carrick will be on the transfer list.

Hilarious.

Bulldozing and starting anew is no different that Hughes expanding his house on his property.

Petty squabble.

And you're probably right. If Hughes is made United manager down the road, the first order of business would probably be to sell Carrick. And the house.
