im sure alonso wont be too happy about this. He actually has to do a lap within 120% of the time it would take an average driver to do it.

Its a big challenge to do it in a F1 car with a renault clio engine but if he tries hard, he might just do it.

btw, funky, what was that about massa being shit?

Massa is driving for Ferrari is such a joke.

I said it last season when he got the ride and I'll continue to say it now.

Now this piece of news you don't see everyday. Wouldn't want this wished on anyone, but Mr. Mosley?

Quote:
Max Mosley faces calls to quit as Formula One chief after ‘Nazi’ orgy

Max Mosley, one of the most powerful men in world sport, was under pressure to resign as boss of Formula One’s governing body last night after he was exposed enjoying a Nazi-style orgy with five prostitutes.

Jewish groups condemned the behaviour of Mosley, 67, whose father, Sir Oswald, was the leader of the British Union of Fascists and a friend of Adolf Hitler.

Mr Mosley was caught on video by the News of the World with five women in an underground “torture chamber” in Chelsea, where he spent several hours allegedly indulging in sado-masochistic sex.

The Oxford-educated former barrister, who is president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), reenacted a concentration camp scene in which he played the role of both guard and inmate.

Speaking in German and brandishing a leather whip, he beat the women after allowing himself to be subjected to a humiliating inspection for lice and an interrogation in chains.

Mr Mosley, a close confidant of Bernie Ecclestone, who holds the commercial rights to Formula One, paid £2,500 cash for the sex services, the Sunday newspaper claimed.

His antics stunned Jewish leaders and motorsport insiders. “This is sick and depraved,” Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said. “For anyone to be in such a position of influence and power beggars belief. I am absolutely appalled.”

Stephen Smith, director of the Holocaust Centre, said: “As Mr Mosley has condemned the racism in motor sport he should live up to the standards he sets. This is an insult to millions of victims, survivors and their families. He should apologise. He should resign from the sport.”

Sir Stirling Moss, the former world champion racing driver whose father was Jewish, said: “I don’t see how he can continue. I hope he can, frankly, because I think he’s very good at what he does. I suppose what goes on behind closed doors is his business but when a thing comes out like this . . . it’s an absolute shocker.”

Mr Mosley, whose two years in Germany as a young teenager gave him fluency in the language, has helped to turn Formula One into a multi-billion-pound business since he became FIA president in 1993. The FIA is a nonprofit association that represents the interests of motoring organisations and car users worldwide.

Mr Ecclestone said that he was shocked by the allegations but did not expect Mr Mosley’s position to be affected. “I’ve known him an awful long time. If somebody had told me this without the evidence I would have found it difficult to believe,” he said.

“Assuming it’s all true, what people do privately is up to them. I don’t honestly believe [it] affects the sport in any way. Knowing Max it might be all a bit of a joke. You know, it’s one of those things where he’s sort of taking the p***, rather than anything against Jewish people.”

Mr Mosley, who lives in Monaco, is understood to be pursuing legal action against the News of The World for breach of privacy. His spokesman said: “This is a matter between Mr Mosley and the newspaper in question and the FIA has no comment.”

Martin Brundle, the driver-turned-pundit who was recently the subject of a libel action brought by Mr Mosley, said: “It’s not appropriate behaviour for the head of any global body such as the FIA.”

Mr Mosley, who once harboured ambitions to be a parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party, is known for being eccentric and outspoken. Nicknamed “Mad Max” by some in motorsport, he once said he didn’t mind flak because he came from a family used to getting it all the time.

Hitler was present at the wedding of his father, Oswald, and mother, Diana, which took place in Joseph Goebbels’s drawing room. They were interned in Holloway and Brixton prisons for their Fascist connections.

Most recently, Mr Mosley stood up against racism in Formula One by giving warning of immediate sanctions if there was a repeat of the abuse against Lewis Hamilton, the only black driver on the circuit, in Barcelona during testing this season.

The wit and wisdom of Max Mosley

He goes around dressed up as a Thirties music hall man. He’s a certified halfwit”
On Sir Jackie Stewart (a dyslexic)

There was always a certain amount of trouble until I came into motor racing. ‘Mosley, he must be some relation of Alf Mosley, the coachbuilder'. And I thought to myself, ‘I’ve found a world where they don’t know about Oswald Mosley’. And it has always been a bit like that in motor racing: nobody gives a darn”
On being the son of Sir Oswald Mosley

There is always somebody new. If it wasn’t him it would be one of the other new stars . . . There is a tendency to exaggerate the importance of Hamilton”
On British motor racing star Lewis Hamilton

2008 - Bahrain Grand Prix Preview

Race Track Diagram:

Location: Bahrain, Sakhir

Race Date: 06 Apr 2008

Number of Laps: 57

Circuit Length: 5.412 km

Race Distance: 308.238 km

Lap Record: 1:30.252 - M Schumacher (2004)

Last Year Table:

f1.com text preview:

BMW Sauber do not want to commit themselves to any hierarchical order at the moment, to quote technical director Willy Rampf, but there is absolutely no doubt that they head into this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir determined to keep up their good work and to do everything that they can to challenge the dominance of Ferrari and McLaren.

Can they do it? The performance of the BMW Sauber F1.08 in Australia and Malaysia suggests that they will at worst be able to keep up the pressure on their rivals.

"Our bottom line after the first batch of overseas races looks pretty good: we're very happy with our two second places in Melbourne and Sepang, our first fastest race lap in Malaysia and 19 points in the championship," team boss Mario Theissen said this week. "So, after a brief pit stop back home, we will be heading for Bahrain well motivated. We aim to keep up the same level of performance as we've shown so far."

Ferrari are feeling very confident once again, following Kimi Raikkonen’s dominant victory in Sepang. “We showed there what we are really capable of,” said team principal Stefano Domenicali. “We believe that our title challenge is now well and truly launched.”

Ferrari may have an advantage, together with Toyota, having tested here previously this year. McLaren, meanwhile, insist that not testing here will not disadvantage them.

"Of course we would have liked to test in Bahrain but we do have to prioritise where we spend our time,” says their Formula One CEO Martin Whitmarsh. “Over the winter we have improved the aerodynamic efficiency of the car and cooling generally so it’s not currently one of our vulnerable points. We have good data from running at the Bahrain track in previous years so we are confident it will not prove too much of a disadvantage."

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton loves the place: "Bahrain is a really cool circuit; it is quite different to any other because you are literally driving round the desert. There are no trees or buildings as you are driving round, just desert. I really like the track, there are a lot of opportunities to overtake, for example Turns One, Four, Seven, and 10. With all the straights you can do a lot of slipstreaming and then make sure you get good exits. So in terms of racing it is a very good track.

“The layout is a great design, starting off with a very long straight, then down to a very tight first gear corner and then you accelerate through a slight kink before going up another long straight. It is a curvy circuit with lots of kinks and gradient changes that are quite large in some areas. Also the wind plays a big part, bringing sand on to the track that means any part that is off line is very slippery. It is very hot in Bahrain, as in Australia and Malaysia, so it is ideal that these three are together at the beginning as they are all very physically demanding and you can prepare for them all at one time.

"I love the Bahrain race, it is one of the ones I really look forward too, like Monaco and Spa. I have a lot of good memories of the track; last year I had a fantastic race. It was great fun and I took my third podium in Formula 1 and took the joint lead of the World Championship, it was a bit unreal. The best memory is from 2004: I recovered from a disastrous qualifying in F3, and I ended up in 23rd. I worked my way back up the grid to win the race. That was one of the most emotional races I had been involved in up to that point."

Elsewhere, Red Bull and Toyota are seeking to continue their improved performance, Renault are looking for more on a track where the R25 and R26 models were previously victorious, and Williams are desperate to put the nightmare of Sepang behind them and run back at the head of the midfield as they did in Australia.

Like the Circuit du Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Sepang is very tough on brakes, with some heavy braking at the end of the high-speed straights, and the effect of wind and sand blown on to the track as a result can lead to sudden changes in grip levels. It is also tough on engines. All teams take precautions against the ingress of sand, and because of the way that the four long straights are each followed by tight corners, the engine’s load profile is in the medium range with two thirds of a lap run under full throttle.

In the 2008 drivers’ championship chase, Hamilton leads with 14 points from Raikkonen and Nick Heidfeld on 11 and Heikki Kovalainen on 10, while the constructors’ table sees McLaren on 24, BMW Sauber on 19 and Ferrari on 11.

Weekend weather update - windy conditions in Sakhir

Welcome to the third round of the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship, the Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir.

It is always warm and relatively humid here, but an extra factor this year may be the high winds which blow the desert sand into dunes and on to the track surface. Wednesday’s Motor Sport Middle East Forum at the nearby RUF building was characteristic by such conditions.

An ambient temperature high of 27 degrees Celsius is forecast on Thursday, with some cloud, followed by 30 degrees on Friday and 28 on Saturday. Race day will be sunny and hot, with the same high of 29 degrees as last year.

The 5.412 km (3.363 mile) circuit is unchanged since Felipe Massa won for Ferrari, last year’s result being the first time in the race’s history that the winner had not gone on to win the world championship.

The race will run over 57 laps or 308.238 kilometres (191.539 miles) and will start at 14.30 hours local time, which is three hours ahead of GMT.

Default Bahrain Free Practice 1,2 Review - 04-04-2008, 05:05 PM

Hamilton crashes out of Bahrain practice

eurosport.com review:

McLaren's Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton crashed out of Bahrain Grand Prix free practice while Ferrari's Felipe Massa set the pace.

Hamilton lost control of the car on the exit to turn seven in the middle sector of the slippery desert circuit and, with no grip, careered broadside into the tyre barriers with nine minutes of the second session remaining.

The 23-year-old Briton, who leads Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen by three points in the standings after two races, stepped out of the heavily damaged car unscathed.

Hamilton still set the fourth best time of the afternoon at Sakhir, behind third-placed Finnish team mate Heikki Kovalainen and the two Ferrari drivers who repeated their morning one-two.

Massa could be content with his day's work after lapping fastest in both sessions.

Winner from pole position in Bahrain last year, but still without a point after retiring in Australia and Malaysia, he lapped in one minute 32.233 seconds in the morning and 1:31.420 in the second stint.

The Brazilian's final effort of the day was a hefty 0.907 seconds quicker than world champion Raikkonen's best afternoon lap and more than a second faster than his own 2007 pole position time.

Germany's Nico Rosberg posted the third best time for Williams in the morning and sixth after lunch with Poland's Robert Kubica fifth for BMW Sauber.

Renault's Fernando Alonso, a winner at Sakhir in 2005 and 2006, collided with Force India's Adrian Sutil in the day's closing seconds.

man, that shunt wasn't too bad. Lewis was on the curb too much whiile accelerating, which was why he lost control.

Still expect him to finish on the podium. Very glad that he wasn't hurt and the shunt happened during practice. No penalties

Exclamation Kubica on Pole - 04-05-2008, 05:59 PM

Kubica gives BMW Sauber maiden pole in Bahrain

Felipe Massa has made the running here all weekend, but on Saturday he had to play second fiddle to Robert Kubica as the Pole grabbed the first pole position of his career, and the first for BMW Sauber.

When the chips were down in the final runs of Q3, Lewis Hamilton went to the top with 1m 33.292s for McLaren, but then Kubica banged in 1m 33.096s - even though he said his car was pulling to one side under braking - and when Massa came up short with 1m 33.123s, the dye was set, to the delight of the men from Munich and Hinwil. Their speeds, of course, could owe much to their respective fuel loads, but it was all great theatre.

Behind them, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen just pipped fellow countryman, McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen, for fourth, 1m 33.418s to 1m 33.488s, and again fuel loads may be a factor there.

Nick Heidfeld put his BMW Sauber in sixth place with 1m 33.737s, beating Jarno Trulli who again had the Toyota in the top 10 with 1m 33.994s. Williams faded a little after the speed Nico Rosberg has shown all weekend, but the German will line up eighth with 1m 34.015s. Jenson Button achieved his top 10 target with ninth place and 1m 35.057s for Honda, while Renault’s speed also faded as Fernando Alonso settled for 10th with 1m 35.115s.

Once again conditions were different, with many drivers complaining that the wind was wreaking havoc on their cars’ balance and stability.

Q2 was dominated by Massa, who whirled his Ferrari round in 1m 31.188s to head Kovalainen (1m 31.718s) and Kubica (1m 31.745s). The only driver to improve significantly over his first run time was Heidfeld, who jumped to fourth with 1m 31.909s.

The Q2 fallers this time were Red Bull’s Mark Webber (1m 32.371s), Honda’s Rubens Barrichello (1m 32.508s), Toyota’s Timo Glock (1m 32.528s), Renault’s Nelson Piquet (1m 32.790s), Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Bourdais (1m 32.915s) and Williams’ Kazuki Nakajima (1m 32.943s). They will start the race in positions 11 through 16.

Takuma Sato brought out a brief red flag in Q1 after spinning his Super Aguri in the final corner and walloping it backwards into the pit wall. He parked up just past the pit exit, and the session was stopped while the car was recovered.

The ensuing mad scramble over the final four minutes saw the Japanese driver and team mate Anthony Davidson eliminated, with respective times of 1m 35.725s and 1m 34.140s, together with Red Bull’s David Coulthard (1m 33.433s), Force India’s Giancarlo Fisichella (1m 33.501s), Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Vettel (1m 33.562s) and Force India’ Adrian Sutil (1m 33.845s). Coulthard was particularly unlucky, as 1m 33.415s was sufficient to get Red Bull stablemate Bourdais through into Q2.

This time there were no penalties for inadvertent blocking, after an FIA edict threatened to penalise any driver deemed to be driving unnecessarily slowly. Cars leaving the pits were timed between SC line 2 (the second safety car line, 50 metres before Turn One) and SC line 1 (the second safety car line, after Turn 15), and any car exceeding a time of 1m 39.0s between these points would be deemed to have been driven unnecessarily slowly.

That's mighty impressive for BMW to get pole. They have really been on the ball this past offseason.

Now lets see How quickly Lewis and Kimi take the lead
