Silverstone this weekend...

Lewis got the pole. Quite shocking to be honest, because Kimi was destroying the field in practice... Also, Alonso was dong a bit better than Lewis in practice as well... great pole for him, and I'm interested to see if he can hold off Kimi.

After the debacle at Indy a couple of seasons ago, I'm guessing this is the fallout. I really hope another North American race is put in place.

Quote:
No space for Indy on F1 calendar

Indianapolis will not host a grand prix on the 2008 Formula One calendar, according to track spokesman Ron Green.

The circuit has hosted the race for the last eight years but its future has been under threat for some time.

A deadline for extending the contract passed today with officials unable to reach an agreement.

It is unclear if another track will host the race or if America will be dropped from the schedule altogether.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone and IMS chief executive Tony George twice met during last month's US GP to discuss the prospect of a new contract.

The original deal that brought the grand prix back to America in 2000 expired in 2006, when a one-year extension was signed.

George had hoped to secure a long-term deal, imposing a deadline of today by which time all parties had to agree.

However, with that deadline arriving, it seems certain there is no new deal on the table, with George likely to confirm the situation later today.

This season Ferrari and McLaren are way ahead of everyone.

For me it is more interesting to see who takes places behind them. After them it is very close racing always though Heidfeld seems to be the best one of the rest.

Hamilton has been amazing. All races in top three. I wonder when he will lose some tempo.

Mclaren gets cleared from the spying row they were accused of. So what does Ferrari do? Have a hissy fit and then threaten to appeal the decision.

I've watched F1 on a regular basis since '01 and I have to tell you... Ferrari are one of the dirtiest teams around. They have bent rules, had decisions go there way on things that shouldn't have for so long... that when something goes against them, they can't understand why.

Former Ferrari engineer Nigel Stepney, should be banned from F1 for life for his actions and really should have charges brought up for stealing company secrets.

Anyways, I think FIA, F1's ruling body, finally got a decision right. Kudos!

Now the focus can get back to the track.

it turns out there is yet another twist, and those files that were reportedly stolen included information on how the ferrari car that won the aussi GP was illegal...

i seriously hope this saga ends soon, its damaging the image of the sport and the drivers who im pretty certain are innocent ( but alonso looks a bit shifty tbh )

also, a new twist in the alonso vs hamilton story, rather funny i have to say

Hamilton finds himself blocked (by an asshole.)

Fernando Alonso was dramatically demoted to sixth place on the starting grid for the Hungarian Grand Prix late on Saturday night following an investigation into the controversial dying moments of qualifying.

The Spaniard pipped Mercedes McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton to pole position on his final qualification lap, but not before he had remained stationary in the pits for several seconds - denying the Brit another chance to take to the Hungaroring circuit.

Race stewards immediately called an inquiry into the incident, and, despite earlier confirming the grid positions, not only demoted the driver but ruled that McLaren would not pick up any points towards the constructors championship regardless of the race result.

Alonso's punishment cannot be reversed but McLaren have already made it known that they plan to appeal against their constructors points penalty.
The fiasco is precisely what Formula One didn't want following two weeks of wrangling between the Ferrari and McLaren teams over alleged spying.
Statement

"The actions of the team in the final minutes of qualifying are considered prejudicial to the interests of the competition and to the interests of motor sport generally," the stewards said in a statement.

"Because of the delay caused by Alonso, Hamilton was unable to complete his pit stop in time sufficient to enable him also to complete a flying lap.
"The stewards find that he unneccessarily impeded another driver, Hamilton, and as a result he will be penalised by a loss of five grid positions."
The BMW Sauber of Nick Heidfeld had originally pipped Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari to third place but will now start alongside Hamilton on the front of the grid.

Raikkonen will be joined by Nico Rosberg's Williams on the second row, while the other driver to benefit is Ralf Schumacher, whose Toyota will start alongside the besmirched Alonso.
i am amazed how hamilton composed himself in the interview, he was clearly pissed off, but he didnt react at all in the way alonso hope he would after he tried to provoke him.

il be honest, hade no respect for alonso anyway, and after this incident i have a deficit of respect towards him, he is almost as bad as Heinze and robbie fowler.

i just wonder what would have happened if alonso was blocked by hamilton (which wouldnt happen because hamilton has some dignity), and what that interview would have been liked.

even though i dont really support mclaren, i follow hamilton's progress and its hard not to wish such a charachter all the best in the title race, even if that means ferrari come second.

8 more laps to go... you can do Lewis!!!

Having Kimi breathing down your neck for 1st must be nerve wracking.

PS. Alonso is a cheat. I am glad he got punished.
