Default Manchester United vs. Port Vale Match Report - 07-30-2007, 07:06 PM

This match was played on 07.25.07.

Quote:
Port Vale 3 Manchester United 2

A bumper crowd saw Vale take on a young Manchester United outfit at ValePark in the first of three pre-season games to be played at home before the big kick off.

All five goals were scored within the first half hour of the game, but the visitors played some neat stuff at times, with Gueseppi Rossi in particular catching the eye.

The kick off was delayed for ten minutes due to crowd congestion outside, but it was worth the wait as the home side stormed into a 3-0 lead in the opening 16 minutes.

Former United trainee Danny Whitaker struck in the 2nd minute, lifting the ball over Ron-Robert Zieler in the United goal in style from 20 yards.

The in-form Luke Rodgers hit an unstoppable shot inside the 'keeper's right hand post to double the advantage after 14 minutes and the visitors almost hit back immediately.

Joe Anyon made a terrific save at the feet of the impressive Frazier Campbell, before Miles cleared the loose ball and Vale went straight on the attack.

There may have been no sign of Cristiano Ronaldo at ValePark, but the step-over was there in the shape of Shane Tudor, who advanced on the United goal showing all the tricks before firing past Zieler for Vale's third goal.

Rossi showed his class when he ran at the Vale defence and slotted the ball into the corner of the net to make the scoreline more respectable from the visitors' point of view on 20 minutes.

Then the same player clipped the ball through intelligently to send Campbell clear and the striker took on the ball before calmly firing past Anyon.

Martin Foyle made several changes during the second half, with trialists Gareth Evans, Marco Adaggio and Callum Willock all making an appearance.

Port Vale: Joe Anyon, Justin Miller, Mark McGregor, George Pilkington, Colin Miles, Danny Whitaker, Paul Harsley, Shane Tudor, Paul Edwards, Akpo Sodje, Luke Rodgers. Subs: Chris Martin, Jason Talbot, Robin Hulbert, Keith Lowe, Joe Cardle, Charlie O'Loughlin, Marco Adaggio, Callum Willock, Gareth Evans.

Manchester United: Ron-Robert Zieler, Richard Eckersley, Adam Eckersley, Michael Lea, Ryan Shawcross, Richard Jones, Kieran Lee, Sam Hewson, Frazier Campbell, Guiseppi Rossi, Michael Barnes. Subs: Gary Woods, Jimmy Derbyshire, Oli Norwood, Danny Srinkwater, Corry Evans, Sean Evans, JamesChester, Craig Cathcart.

Attendance: 7, 103 including 1, 364 visitors
