Default Reserves l Man utd vs Newcastle l *spoilers* - 03-27-2008, 10:10 PM

Reserves: United 3 N'castle 1

Barclays Premier Reserve League
Marston's Arena, 27 March 2008

MANCHESTER UNITED 3
Macheda (54), Welbeck (55), Eagles (60)

NEWCASTLE UNITED 1

Godsmark (36)
Quote:
Three sumptuous goals in six second-half minutes saw United come from behind to overcome Newcastle at the Marston’s Arena.

Mikael Silvestre and Ben Foster also completed 90 minutes each in their ongoing pursuit of match fitness, but it was the Reds’ young guns – and Welbeck in particular – who stole the show.

The Reds had to recover from the concession of an early goal against Manchester City last week, and it was the same story again as Newcastle took the lead after 36 minutes.

James Marwood scuffed his shot completely, foxing the United defence, and Jonathan Godsmark was on hand to hook a 15-yard shot past Foster and into the far corner.

Wesley Ngo Baheng should have put the Magpies ahead 10 minutes earlier, but slotted his shot wide of the post after bursting clean through. Chris Eagles had United’s best effort of the first half, but his low shot was saved by Fraser Forster after six minutes.

United went into half-time a goal behind, and also hampered by the loss of Rodrigo Possebon through injury. The elegant Brazilian was substituted as a precautionary measure after an awkward landing just after Newcastle’s goal.

Solid all evening in defence, Silvestre was involved as United drew level on 54 minutes, curling a superb ball into the area for the onrushing Macheda to control and stab home with the outside of his
nice to see that even the reserves have the fight back spirit typical of united. 3 goals in 6 minutes is quite impressive.

No neville? Perhaps he isnt fit enough for the game or perhaps he is being lined up to play as a sub for the first team...

The Reserves played recently. Wasnt' it this past weekend? If so, Neville is probably been rested to make sure he has no additional setbacks.

Welbeck has been awesome lately. I'm really hoping that he gets a chance to make the first team come next season.

3 goals in 6 minutes is quite impressive. Emulating the first teams destruction of Newcastle this season.

Well three of our next stars are on the score sheet, I guess . I hope to see Welbeck playing for United in the summer friendlies.

What about Macheda? Never saw him playing.

Welbeck is a good striker no doubt about it, but i get the feeling he may possibly be farmed out on loan.

I think that Fergie will probably bring in a high profile striker during the summer which probably limits Welbecks first-team chances next season.

He's a good striker, and he had a hat trick against Shiteh last weekend, but there is something strange baout his movements that remind me of Crouch. He has these lanky weird movements that are just a tad odd.

BTW today's video of the day will be the highlights from that reserves game against Shiteh btw.

The guy I'm really starting to like in the reserves is Barnes. He has a lot of competition ahead of him, but he's class from what I've seen.
