Default City target Dos Santos

Dos Santos has very good potential and it would be interesting to me how the phsyicality of the English Premier League would affect his game.

Furthermore, I don't see how City's style would work with his style.

I know I've been reading reports this week on how City were looking for a "star" player to fill the seats. This can't be the answer, right?

Mexican shoots to the top of Sven's wish-list

Barcelona's 18-year-old forward Giovani dos Santos has emerged as a leading target for Manchester City, according to the player's father Zizinho.

The Mexico international broke into Barca's senior ranks ahead of schedule last season, but this term has seen first team opportunities limited.

Fellow starlet Bojan Krkic has stolen the plaudits this year for his meteoric rise, in a turn of events that has reduced Dos Santos somewhat to the periphery at Camp Nou.

City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is likely to be armed with a healthy transfer kitty in the summer and the capture of Dos Santos would likely sate the appetite of the Eastlands faithful for world class talent.

Whether the player would make the move to England though, remains very much subject to conjecture.

City interest

"There is interest from Manchester City," Zizinho told Mexican newspaper El Universal.

"However, I cannot give more information now as Giovani's agent is the one in charge of all this, it's him who is dealing with negotiations.

"I can't say for sure if Giovani will go to another team. There are still games to play in La Liga and while there are he's only thinking about Barcelona.

"We don't want to get ahead of ourselves, there is interest but first he has to concentrate on Barcelona."

Dos Santos has played 25 times for Barca this season in all competitions, scoring once in a UEFA Champions League game with Stuttgart.

they need a striker not a midfielder :| I almost thought that the Berbatov-news was true. I refuse to believe Sven will spend that money on anything else that a world class striker, they already have Elano there

I dont think Dos Santos will want to leave Camp Nou.
He have achieved a lot there and he also owns a lot to the club. The Mexican can have a bright future in Catalonia and will have to settle in Manchester and only then to fit in the Citizens tactical system.Plus hes enjoying himself there and city could prove to be not a good career move.
P.S. Dos Santos is not going anywhere, pure speculation.

Update:

Quote:
Manchester City are favourites to seal a deal for Barcelona starlet Giovani dos Santos, the player's father has confirmed.

The young Mexican seems set to leave Camp Nou this summer and a host of clubs are now jostling to seal his signature.

But City look to be in pole position ahead of the likes of Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool.

The player's father - former Brazilian international Zizinho - has confirmed to the Mexican press that City have made their move.

"The news is certain, but the subject is in the hands of the agent," Zizinho revealed.

"We would prefer much discretion until the end of the season.

"We will not decide, but Barca know the situation as we have had contact with sporting director Txiki Beguiristain.

"Our objective now is for him to finish the season with Barcelona at a good level and then we will speak."

English interest

Zizinho then confirmed that City were amongst a host of English clubs in the hunt.

"Other English clubs have demanded information about Giovani but the main chance is City," he added.

Barcelona have a wealth of forward options which is why Giovani will seemingly be allowed to leave - with former youth colleague Bojan now very much the talk of Catalunya.

It is believed Barca are willing to let Giovani go for 10 million euros (£7.8million), although they are also open to the idea of a season-long loan but any club would have to take over the whole of his salary.

Giovani's current deal has three-years left to run.

I think this rumour has a lil more traction now that Barcelona are just about ready to finish 3rd in La Liga. Dos Santos really hasn't featured much and it makes sense that he'll want to move on.

The question again will be if his style is suited to the English Premier League. He likes to hold on to the ball and you simply cannot do that in the EPL.

City came to an agreement with Dos Santos, and he's expected to sign very soon.

So, thread closed!
