Default Nistelrooy To Pen a New Deal - 12-19-2007, 03:27 PM

Good to hear the legend is doing well in Spain. We always knew he would.

Van Nistelrooy set for new Real Madrid deal

MADRID, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is to receive a contract extension as a reward for his outstanding scoring record.

'We will agree a contract renewal in the next few days because that's what I promised him and because that's what he deserves,' Real president Ramon Calderon told radio station Onda Madrid.

'Players like him deserve to be rewarded for both their performance and behaviour. He is an extraordinary player and person and it would be great if he could end the season as top scorer together with (team mate) Raul.'

Dutch international Van Nistelrooy, whose existing deal expires in 2009, hit 25 league goals in his debut campaign last season to fire Real to their first Primera Liga title in four years.

The 31-year-old former Manchester United striker has scored another eight league goals this season, helping the club go top of the table, four points clear of arch-rivals Barcelona.

Calderon said he was so pleased with his squad he was no longer obsessed with trying to sign AC Milan playmaker Kaka, FIFA's World Player of the Year.

'It might appear to be an arrogant thing to say but we've got such a strong squad that there might not be any room for Kaka,' he said.

'We've got a squad capable of winning everything. No one is going to leave the club nor are we going to sign anyone during the winter transfer window because the squad is absolutely complete. It is one of the best in Europe.'

Calderon promised to sign the Brazil international when campaigning to be elected as president last year.

Can anyone find that video of hmi and beckham celebrating united winning the title last year? Nistlerooy was in an interview

I was disappointed when he moved on, but it seems to have worked out well for him and United.

Yeah, he seems to have rediscovered his form. Its good to see that. He seems to have lost some weight too and can run. Can you guys believe it? I saw him running against Barcelona and looked great!!

Logical thing to happen after his performances for Real. I wonder how long will he play before he retires. He is 31 already and if he extends his contract another two years he might consider retiring with Real.

Most of the Dutch usually go back (Makaay and Gio being the latest) to their homeland for their last seasons. I wonder what plans he has got.

I think when that contract is up he will call it a career.

Beckham did not want to leave. SAF wanted him out. The media circus around him got a lot bigger than SAF could ever imagine or want. I'm glad that they have settled there differences.

As for Ruud. This will probably be his last contract and I'm glad he found a club that he is happy with. He certainly wasn't happy with United the last couple of months before his exit.
