Default Santa Cruz? - 04-29-2008, 10:07 AM

Roque plays down exit talk

Quote:
Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz has played down talk he could quit Ewood Park this summer and join Manchester United.

The former Bayern Munich ace has had an impressive debut season in the Premier League, netting an impressive 17 league goals - including Rovers' opener against The Red Devils on 19th April.

Reports have linked the Paraguay international with a move to Old Trafford and while Santa Cruz would be open to a move in England, he is not thinking of deserting Blackburn.

"If I have to be transferred I expect it to be inside England because I would like to stay in this country," he told a radio station in Asuncion.

"To tell you the truth I'm not thinking about leaving Blackburn Rovers.

"I know about the interest from Manchester United after what has been said in the press but nobody has spoken with me about that."

In all honestly i think he would make a pretty decent signing, so long as he has finally shaken off those re-occurring injuries. United have experience everywhere except upfront and i think the reason laarson was so successful was because he was experienced and brought something different to the table.

If the signing of Santa Cruz goes through, surely that will be the end for Saha?

I'm all for signing Santa Cruz, he's in good form. Hopefully this does go through, so there are no more Berbatov rumours!

Ok, probably becuase this is the first season that Santa Cruz has socred more than 5 league goals in a season, and im sure he enjoys each goal even more. So i highly doubt he will want to go to a bench role which he was surcome to with his previous employers; when he can have fun and be the centre of attention in a strong blackburn rovers team.

As a second note, it isn't really worth buying a player that has had a reoccurring injury in the past, which would rule him out of what ever match time he may have. Meaning we would be taking a huge risk on him, especially with the huge mark up on his price that Blackburn will demand.

and ZEUS, you need to take a look at your people skills, this forum isnt exactly thriving with 500 people signing up per day. So i fail to see how driving others away will help.

Well have to agree with your last assessment James,

At the same time, if you want to engage other members and want them to post. A quick non descript response isn't the way to do it.

As for your assessment on Santa Cruz [Nice by the way!!!]. I think it goes against what Sir Alex and United have been trying to do in terms of looking to youth.

With Welbeck waiting in the wings and Saha missing in action, when United decide to fill in Saha's spot, I'm wondering if they won't look for a player in the 24-28 range who fits in the style of the team and possibly has european experience.

IF United were looking to sign Cruz, they have a way in with Hargreaves. Both former Bayern Munich players, they are great friends and I'm sure Hargo would have nice things to say about the club.

Right now Cruz gets to start, is playing on an up and coming team and is doing something he hasn't done consistently in awhile due to inury. SCORE. He'll stay at Ewood Park.

As you stated, I would find it highly unlikely that he would accept a bench role after sparkling this season with the Rovers.
