Wigan want Manchester United's Darren Fletcher in any deal for Valencia and Palacios

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has told Sir Alex Ferguson he wants Darren Fletcher as part of any deal that takes Antonio Valencia and Wilson Palacios to Manchester United.

Ferguson is planning a summer move for the Wigan duo.

Bruce said: 'It might be difficult to keep hold of Valencia and Palacios. The one thing I don't want to do is lose players like that but I'm also a realist and if the big clubs come in wielding their cheque books it will be hard to stand in their way.

'It will have to be a big club because they will be the only ones that can afford them.'

It's hard to believe that SAF will let Fletcher go.

He can move the duo but without putting Fletcher in the deals...

Between have not heard much of those two lads... had to make some research and find out about them...

ive heard good things about Palacios. I have seen one or two clips of him in MOTD but not much i admit.

Like GCM said, fletcher wont go anywhere, fergie loves him too much.

I do like fletcher but i also must admit it will be very difficult for him to out compete carrick, scholes, andershow or hargo in midfield. He might go but im not sure if he would like wigan very much.


Valencia is pretty good, i saw him in the WC and he adapted to the EPL quickly but im not sure if he has the class to make it as a man united player. Hoe he would compete with ronaldo, nani, park and giggs, im not too sure.

managers do talk to each other and id imagine its not beyond the realms of possibility for bruce to tell fergie about 2 quality players in his team.

Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Wigan midfielder Antonio Valencia, according to his agent Diego Herrera.

The 22-year-old Ecuador international has been a big hit at the JJB Stadium after a lengthy run in the team under manager Steve Bruce, having initially been brought to the club by former boss Paul Jewell in August 2006.

There has been speculation both United and Liverpool were looking at the player after his performances for the Latics, speculation Herrera insists is true with other clubs also in the hunt.

He told El Comercio newspaper: "It is impossible to stop the improvement in a player's career when Manchester and Liverpool are in the middle.

"They have been following him for the past months.

"There are also two more teams interested.

"But he will not come cheap.

"Last week, Bruce commented £5million was not enough for the player."

£5million... is he really worth that kind of money?
