Default Rumour Mill : Guillermo Ochoa (goal keeper) - 11-07-2007, 01:04 PM

this rumour has been circulating for a few days on the internet and apparently its pretty well covered in mexico atm.

there are rumours that we put in 10 million euros for him, some say its been accepted.

he is 22-years old, currently plays in his homeland for Club America and was recently included on the 50-man shortlist for this year's France Football Ballon d'Or award.

he looks pretty decent, thats for sure.
here is a short clip of him

not many reliable sources in english atm but il try and update it with some sources when/if there is. here is a spanish article on it though

great leap and all, but we all know that it takes a lot more to be a great goalkeeper. namely, i'd rather look for personality and the way they lead the back. The problem with young keepers is that they aren't able to stamp respect and authority into their backlines. Hard to do when you're 5 years younger than the rest of the defense. Also we have no clue how he takes corners or set pieces and also his ability to judge when to come out. That said, intercepting that cross was pretty cool. Any chance we can clone VDS?

We don't need him. I hope that Kuszczak will be Van der Sar's replacment, and of course we have Foster and very promising Ron Robert Zieler

uggg, PIG is not it. I'm sorry but he is brilliant at saving shots, but the rest of the game is so much bigger than he can handle. The keeper position requires a certain command and respect from the other players that he just does have or get. It's some of that Keano intimidation that's needed.

We don't need another keeper. We've got Kuszcak and Foster Two soon to be world class keepers so i reckon it's just bogus

I'd rather walk alone.

I'd take Ochoa over Kooshie and as far as Foster goes I have no idea of what I should be expecting when he returns. Foster as I see it now is a better keeper (though I admit I may be bit biased to the leagues they are in) but Ochoa is really good and it remains to be seen if this big a stage will bring more attention to his talents. I think it would to be honest and bringing him in may not be that bad an idea.

Forget about cloning Van der Sar, clone Schmiechiel! Now that is one goalkeeper who could intimidate his opponents and control the back line.

koosh looks very shaky ... hates it when the ball is played back to him ...
doesnt look too confident clearing crosses either ... foster was great last seaon for watford ..

dont think we need someone right now .. esp now that VDS might stay for another season (with foster as #1)

i remember watching kooshie when we played West Brom in the league .. looked very good .. maybe he just needs a few games to get his confidence back

Yup! totally agree with your thoughts prateik! Kuzchak does need some games to regain his confidence but he has a lot of potential........do you remember his debut game against arsanal.....lol..........he saved Gilberto's penalty......that was awesome........lol.......

he's a great keeper. It would be great if we could sign him. He's a future star, and could be one the best if he would join Man Utd...Ochoa in the starting 11 and Foster as a sub...Van der Sar the coach...super
