I don't think United needs Lahm, may be one youth who will be Brown's reserve would be better. But if Brown leaves that we'll make him one big b*tch after all that Ferguson gave to him.If he leaves I think Alves would fit better to the team

Wes Brown is a good player but he's a utility player for United. He knows when Neville gets back into action, he's back on the bench. He knows he can be a main player in almost any other Prem team. You really can't hold that against him.

Alves also comes with a higher pric tag, and is being seeked by Chelsea and Tottenham. Lahm will probably be in the 15GBP range, while ALves will be 20+.

PS: does anyone know how to do a pound sign on an american keyboard?

Lahm is great defender, he can play very well on both sides....and Sir Alex would make a smart move if he could get him, because he could be a long time succesor of Gary, but as well a cover for Evra...i would love him at United

Manchester United face an £8.5million battle with Barcelona for Bayern Munich full-back Philipp Lahm. The Germany star is right-footed but plays for club and country mainly at left back.

United are eager to strengthen that area after offloading Gabriel Heinze to Real Madrid last summer, while there are also minor concerns over Patrice Evra's new contract demands.

And the fact that Gary Neville is struggling to resurrect his career after injury makes Lahm all the more enticing.

Lahm, 24, is a good friend of United's Owen Hargreaves but the appointment of Jurgen Klinsmann, a big fan of Lahm, as Bayern coach may complicate matters.

Barcelona want Lahm to play at right back and replace Gianluca Zambrotta who is expected to return to Italy with AC Milan in the summer and are prepared to offer a lucrative contract.

However, he is known to prefer a move to the Premier League if he does quit Germany.

Barcelona, who expect to sell Deco, have also been linked with a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso but the Spain midfielder wants to wait until the summer before deciding his future.

only 8.5 million? that would be a great deal for two footed attacking international fullback that can also defend and is only 24.

He will probably cost twice that unless his deal is running out
