Henrik Larsson poised for United return

Swede memories: Larsson was a huge success at Old Trafford

Reports in yesterday's papers suggested Ferguson had lined up a bid that involved the unsettled Wes Brown and Louis Saha heading in the opposite direction to Berbatov.

However, though Brown would be a useful addition to an underperforming Spurs defence, his wage demands as he becomes a free agent in the summer and hopes to cash in on that fact would make him less desirable and Ramos is known to have reservations about Saha's ability.

Tottenham, who would rather keep the player, would want around £20 million in cash if he were to leave so that they could replace Berbatov with another international class striker as well as invest in other areas of the team.

That figure has forced Ferguson to look elsewhere and Larsson, who impressed during a three month loan spell at Old Trafford at the start of the year, has come back into his thoughts.

Larsson's previous spell at United was viewed as something of a coup for Ferguson. He scored three goals in 13 appearances and his all round contribution to United's Championship wining season was immense.

Ferguson tried to convince the 36-year-old Swede to make his move permanent but Larsson had already committed to his home town club Helsingborgs. That deal has now expired meaning the former Celtic and Barcelona player is free to listen to offers and could stay with United to the end of the season.

Larsson would not be eligible for Champions League matches but to have someone with such talent and experience to shoulder the domestic attacking load with his other main strikers means Ferguson would not view this as a major draw back.

Larsson is this season's top scorer in the Uefa cup and, despite his advancing years, is still one of the smartest and respected forwards in the game.
this would be immense for us. His impact last year was phenomenal. He is no spring chicken but he is experienced and skillfull. MAn united have experienced players in almost every area except upfront.

lets hope this goes through.

I would definately be cool with signing Larrson again. He made a great impact last year when we had him on loan, and he fit right into the team straight away.

Of course, like anything else, we'll see what actually comes out in the wash.

wording wasnt that powerful to say it wont happen or it was ruled out.

"It would be an interesting one, but I don't think it's on,"

it could still happen. It wont be the first time fergie has played a transfer down and went for it. most managers do.

I'm torn over this. On one hand, I'd quite like to see Larsson back at United, as I felt that he helped us while he was here.

However, I noticed last season that when he came, he started nearly every match and Saha was simply pushed aside after his fantastic start to the season. I wouldn't want to see the same thing happen this season, with Rooney or Tevez simply dumped out of the side for the time that Larsson is here. If he came here knowing he'd be a rotation player, and would get starts when Rooney or Tevez needed a rest, then sure, but to have him come in and start nearly every game and force Rooney or Tevez to the bench is insane.
